Hi, how common is it for 260z original carbs to run rich due to age?

The reason I ask is my 260z starts easy with no choke. The plugs are black with carbon. I thought the car was going ok but have noticed that once the revs build up and you put your foot down there is a misfire and poor performance.

Could it be running to rich due to worn carbs?

Would this be a common problem?

Cheers.

I reckon weve had this question 10 times this year , myself included  :P

Carbs & fuel aside, if your motor is not the "freshest" try running a hotter plug , only 1 increment up from your current plug, it will help burn-off 95% of the fuel rather than say 85%...I had the same symptoms as what youve described , & it solved "my" problem anyway.

look for a thread called NGK plugs blah blah...

You may well have already thought of this but ..... how clean is your air filter.  A dirty air filter reduces air flow and can richen the mixture, especially under acceleration.

Yes the needle and seats can wear over time.  Some fuels, especially in the past, contained impurities that would slowly erode all the tiny holes it passed through.

I'd try it without an airfilter on before I started pulling them apart.
