Importing from USA

Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone has any first hand experience importing a vehicle from the US and the associated costs and statutory requirements?  or if someone knows of a freight company who brings cars over?

There is some new laws that have been put in place by the department of infrustructure recently regarding the import of vehicles.This for memory is regarding any modification which has been carried out in the last 15 years on the vehicle and you must have receipts to prove that the mods are older than 15 years .This can be eg paint,retrim,wheels basically any changes etc and is on the discretion of the inspecting doi officer and apparently some cars have been knocked back already for import approval.Just a warning do your home work as for some stupid reason they are being real bastards, so I have read.

I believe that only applies to cars after 89' but you'd have to check obviously. You could get a heaps of mod parts throw in the container with the 'standard' car to be installed later..

I also am i touch with a A.U. frieght export service that I use for getting my large composites over to you guy's. He lets me piggy back on his shipments.... I know he specializes in exporting cars to A.U. from the U.S.
