AussieZed Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Hey there, Looking for a vented bonnet for a 260Z ... good condition and because of the size would prefer if it was in Victoria. Cheers, AussieZed. Quote

V8Datto Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Same here, I have a 260z vented bonnet with a tiny bit of rust out Ringwood way, No good to me I have a 240z Quote
Brabham Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I thought 240Z and 260Z bonnets were the same? Can anyone shed any light on this and which cars did the vented bonnet come out on? 240's or was it an option on the 260's. Sorry for diverging somewhat. Thanks. Quote
Roberto Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 The late 260Z's had vented bonnets as standard. I believe Nissan still sells them new for less than $1000. Another option is to retro-fit the vents to non-vented bonnets. This is what I did with my early 260Z just recently. Quote
RB30X Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Do you have any more pics of the install? Was it easy? I noticed 260Z bonnets have an indent around the vents themselves. Quote
drifta1600 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 i would be happy to swap my 260z bonet for a 240 one. Quote
Roberto Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I can say now it wasn't hard, but it did take a while. I made a cut-out template on thin cardboard by carefully measuring the vent and then decide exactly where I wanted the vents to be placed. I mounted them slightly further apart than the original 260Z vents if you look hard at the pics. After that, I traced out with a texta the vent hole to be made. Then I masked off with blue tape around the tracing and used plenty of towels etc to protect the rest of the car from flying sparks. Then with a grinder with a cut-off wheel slowly started the cut. This is the important part. Cut VERY, VERY slowly to avoid heat build-up which will buckle the bonnet. This is the time consuming part and it does take a while. When the rectangular hole is cut, drill your holes and mount the vent. Do not tighten up the nuts too tightly or it may cause buckling of the bonnet. The look will be slightly different than the original 260Z vented bonnets because there is no raised surface around the hole, but it still works. I can take more pics if you like. Just tell me what you want to see. Cheers Quote
AussieZed Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 Thanks for all the replies folks... seems like I will be able to lay my hands on one. Roberto those vents you fitted look amazing ... although the words 'don't cut too fast in case you buckle the bonnet' scare the hell out of me. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 hey Salty ill be interested in non vented bonnet if u got one for sale. need it for my S1. got a vented one for the 72. Quote
Roberto Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 You can get 260Z bonnet vents brand new from Nissan for $195 a pair. Another option is to get them second hand from ebay in the US. The 280Z's had them aswell. You might be able to get them a bit cheaper even with shipping. Quote
RB30X Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Tried searching eBay US. Even called them hood vents but no luck. Quote
reverendzed Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Nissan still have them new, just give Trevor at Brighton Nissan a call. Rev. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 RB30X RE:Vents I should have a set (somewhere buried in the z .) if u still chasing them up. Also got a cut out of the vent humps rear half of the bonnet. I was going to craft it into non vented bonnet on my 260z but managed to pick a complete one with vents than changed my mind.Than when i bought the S1 i picked up a vented bonnet to go on my 72. now i'm after a non vented one for the 70 one. So Salty. i don't have a bonnet to trade as i need my vented one. Quote
Brabham Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Hey Salty, how will you be putting the threaded studs into the vents that hold them to the bonnet? Cheers. Quote
