Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 22, 2010 Moderators Posted June 22, 2010 +2 on the red covered / grey colour 3M double sided tape. It's been holding down the fibreglass eyelids on my X-trail for the last 2-3 years! Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 3m what can i say, even their crap tapes are good.... go for the automotive tapes as they seem pimp to other types..... Quote
zedevan Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 3m VHB tape is nuts, its used for mounting aluminium panels onto the exteriour of buildings (on the buildings where you can't see any fasteners) and in strong winds they claim it will bend a 25x25mm section subframe its mounted to before the tape lets go Quote
JP Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Just a thought: if it is a foam cell tape wont it trap moisture? Quote
zzzzed Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 its more like soft tacky rubber. it is used in the automotive industry constantly Quote
DatPilot Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I used 3m tape on my NISSAN badges, one day i wanted to de-badge before a cut & polish. the tape took the paint with it! so if you want to remove it, use heat/hair dryer to melt the glue and then fishing line, braided nylon or similar to 'floss' it off the panel Quote

Zeddophile Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 now thats the stuff you dont learn in tafe Nope. Thats the stuff you learn in the trade from the guy in the corner who's been doing the job for 30 years. And its a brilliant trick that works really well in this case, can also be used to cut through silicone/sikaflex etc.... Quote
Michael Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Yup Yup, Grey 3M VHB Tape, Best stuff there is Dave I can get some from work if you like? Quote
daniel2410 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Go to www.tapesonline.com.au Thery sell all types of tape. In the double sided tapes section there is a Ultra High Bond grey tape, Manufactured in Germany. Used it for mounting signs at work, amazingly stong stuff. Quote
