garettb16 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Hi guys how you going. new to the forum trying to learn a bit about Z's before taking the plunge. im interested in a 240z or a 260z (not a 2+2) though manual transmission only if it didnt allready have it i would be looking to put a set of triple 40mm webers or dellortos a period style japanese exhaust, some rs watanabes chassis strength braces etc and some nice dampers with views to drive most days. i dont mind spending the money for the right car. can anyone tell me the chassis and body differences between the 240z and the 260z. im not very keen on the 2+2 at all. im not too concerned with the engine providing its in good shape i have never owned a datsun before but did used to own and drive a 105 series 1970 Alfa Romeo GT Junior with twin webers which i was crashed into and was written off (SADLY) so i understand the kooky older car culture. and the quirks that go with the car. any guidance or advise is greatly appreciated. thanks Garett Quote
MaygZ Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 G'day Garett and welcome, Nice to have another ex Cross and Serpent lover on board. The guys here are as helpful, but we don't go to Bells! There are not a lot of big differences between the 240s and 260s, but I'm told there are lots of little ones. Just enough to make it too difficult to make much of a hybrid. The 260's and late 240' have a more rigid chassis set-up than the early ones, but as a result they weigh a little more. Swings and merry-go-rounds. Some of the others can give you more details. The similarities between the Zeds and the 105's is huge: if the wind is gentle from the south, you can hear them both rusting; it is unlikely that the electrics will work in either; they sound great (espec if you fit the mentioned Webers or dellortos) and people smile whenever they look at them! You will love them as they are faster and you no longer have to push the pedals into the floor!! Quote
stevo_gj Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Welcome, To find answers to your question about differences use the search function in the top right - it's been asked about a million times so you should get some good results. Steve Quote
MaygZ Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 The are many comments in topic about differences, ie: difference in chokes, difeerences in diffs etc. But he's right. I can't find much in the way of a good summary of the differences, except this one: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,983.msg6344.html#msg6344 Give it a try. It's pretty thorough as far as I can see. Maybe it could be woken from it's slumber and enhanced, enhanced, enhanced .... just show me the picture! Quote
mossy Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Wecome mate, I take this is Garett from MX5cartalk? Are you selling the mx5 as well? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 5, 2010 Moderators Posted June 5, 2010 Welcome again, If you are after a nice 260 2 seater with some goodies already installed, if the funds allow, this one would be good; http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,6914.0.html Hope to see you soon with a zed! You will love them as they are faster and you no longer have to push the pedals into the floor!! What the hell? There seems to be about as many Alfa guys on this board as there are MX5 guys now! At least with a 105 you don't have to fit webers to them to make them sound good - the factory already did it for you But I can't handle the floor mount pedals - When I get into a 105 I end up tangled up in them, like a seagull in a plastic six-pack ring, squawking and trying in vain to get the right angle to stop smashing my knee into the steering wheel on the way to getting my left foot to the appropriate side. What you lot need is a GTV6 - with a quadcam fitted. Quote
garettb16 Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 yeh hey mossy.! hows your V8 project goin? i sold the MX5 about 4 months ago. the Z was the next car on my car bucket list. Wecome mate, I take this is Garett from MX5cartalk? Are you selling the mx5 as well? the 105 was good. im not real keen on the GTV6's mate. i think alfas should be kept as simple as possible. Quote
mossy Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 The v8 project has stalled for now mate, I'm actually working on my other 240z, which will have an L28 with triple 45's. Good luck with the search though and go the 240z if you can find one Quote
