I require a new UJ in a steering column for a 240Z. It's the tiny one down near the rack.

It needs to be replaced as it's got quite a bit of 'slop' in it.

I reckon because of it's size it might be hard to get one? Has anyone bought a new one before from Repco/Bursons etc?

Or should I try the Z specialists?

There was a thread on this on hybridz a few years back. One of the guys in the US was having trouble getting hold of one - so contacted a steering UJ supplier and I think they made a few up - I can't recall but search over there I think there is a solution.

To get around the headers on my car they had to add an extra uni and knuckle joint which looks the same a the factory one, so I can't imagine they'd be too hard to find.

Farking hell... THAT looks like a giant PITA...

They are looking to have a whole column & UJ made (more or less). I just wanted to replace the UJ itself.

Looks like I might have to find a good condition spare shaft, & fit that instead.

Was reading something about steering joints just the other day on czc.

Maybe a little better news about the steering  u-joints. The 1971 240 Z has had its share of wear and tear, including steering u-joints that are scary bad. After hearing about the other attempts to get parts or fixes, I tried other ways to get the u-joints replaced. Finally hit on trying a driveshaft fixing shop. Turns out the young fellow, who does this for anything from ATV's to Class A Fuelers, took some measurements and searched around. Success! He found u-joint crosses that fit the 240Z steering rods! He installed them for me and they are perfect. I asked if I could recommend him to the other Z car folks, and he said yes. The cost was less than $50 each.

I don't know if this info belongs in another area or not. But here is the info on this source:
