Ok first post been lurking and researching for about 12 months. As with most car forums it is a great group of people (from a lurkers observation) and thanks for letting me share your knowledge.

After fancying the 240z for the last 15 years I have decided it is time to buy one. I trawl Carsales and ebay regularly and indeed the classifieds here. Im not being lazy  8), albeit fussy. Am a massive motoring enthusiast from all things from bikes to cars.

Anyway, basically what I am looking for is a 240z (or perhaps a 260). The car is going to be used as an alternative (say 3-4 times a week approx 25k round trip) to my DD which I am wanting to rest some due to collectability and km's. This means it needs to be reliable as will be driven in heavy traffic on occasions and in the CBD where breakdowns are tre unkool.

Also needs to be a manual.

Im not looking for a beater nor concourse but something that has good punch without being a 11 second pig (my last DD alternative was a 67 Camaro with a big block with no PS/AC and was an unreliable bitch of a car but oh so cool). The point being, whilst I loved looking at it and it was cool to cruise around on a weekend, I would sweat bullets actually using the thing as a method of transport in case the Holly exploded and engulfed me in flames in the middle of the CBD.

Ive exhausted carsales and ebay for the last 6 months and not much has taken my eye, although I know these things can take time. I thought I would post here and see if my luck changes. Not fussed about matching numbers, more interested in what the yank scene would call a pro-tourer. Love the flared guard look with le phat tyres. Am prepared to do a fair bit of work to the car (eg visuals/trim) but nothing major ie engine/box etc as I run my of business and simply dont have time, tragically.

Absolutely love the burnt orange american example on this site (pic below). That is the look Im going for and almost certainly the colour. I know I can source flares/wheels so a good mechanical base to start from is what I am after, and can get a paintjob. Hopefully something with no rust or no problematic rust - Im not sure if such a thing exists however for the Z. Big thanks in advance, cant wait to join the fold.

I used to use my 260z as a daily and its great, to make insurance more affordable while at uni I reduced it to only 2 days per week, but oh do I look forward to those two days. As long as its not really bad stop start then a Z is fiiine. It gets a little old in stop start conditions, but I have a relatively new clutch and reco'd master cylinder so it wasn't too bad.

I daily drove my Z for a while with a button clutch.

Thought I would hate it but I really enjoyed it. Was scary driving in peak traffic with women doing their makeup behind you though.

Good luck with the search.

I had my eye on yours actually but got whisked away with work for a few weeks and she was sold by the time I got back, but yeah +1 on the build - beautiful machine. Re the Camaro's, tbh Im not a big fan of the post 69 shape but I have seen some very very nice 72-74 examples. The good thing is, is that if you like that shape, they are much better buying than pre 1970.

Hmmmmm, a DD with a brass button...lol I think I wouldnt manage if the clutch was anything like my old 13B turbo RX2 insanity box, complete with non functioning drum brakes....  8)
