I've got a 240 and 260 rear control arm and I need to make a pair so if you have one of either you want to swap let me know, I'm in Melbourne ;)

i went back to the wrecker twice with the upside down thing, made me look like a twerp when i took them in and said look, one is upside down!!!  funnily enough i have a small model at home 1:16th scale, and on the underside it depicts one upside down... was impressed with the accuracy

but i digress

Thanks for the quick response guys, I know about the arms flipping and being the same, the arms seem the same dimension wise but they actually look different so I'm not sure which model they are from then.

Hey mate,

I see the difference you have there, and I also had that on mine.

My wrecker in sydney told me it could be a dodgy crash fix-up, but now that it is on 2 unrelated parts it may not be.

The correct "style" is the silver one, with the rims of steel running around the car, not just welded to it like the more surface rusted item in ur pic.

If you measure from "diff side mount" to "wheel side mount" on each one, you will find one to me about 5-10mm shorter from hole centre to hole centre on the surface rusted one.

I dunno if one is dodged up, or if its just a different way of them being made, but the silver one of the 2 is the stronger design, AND, 2 of those is what is on most cars AFAIK.  i went back and swapped mine for 2 of the silver coloured style you have.

Cheers

Dave

I just checked my other series 1 240z and it has the same rear arms as the rusted ones in the pic, maybe they changed to the silver type in later models?

mines a 74 260z coupe, build number 1064, so i dunno if thats considered late or early, but 74 was still an S30, and 74 was the first that was badged 260 with the larger motor...

Rusty ones are 240Z A arms. Silver ones are 260Z A arms.

Just another change in the evolution of the S30.

They are not a dodgy repair. That's how they were made at the factory.

Another change most people wouldn't know about:

260Z front cross member has more reinforcement around the mounting hole area where it bolts to the chassis.

this forum teaches me something new every day.

the 240z and the 260z are different lengths mount to mount tho, so using one of each will put your car a little cockeyed in the back end

yep thats fine , give me a buzz let me know when your on your way. give me time to get the bent one of my car to give to you!!!

Are they?

Rooster eyed, well that would be the forum using its anti swear mechanism to change the word eye used, whcih is created by using the formula

slang for male genitalia, OR A CHICKEN-eyed - im sure you all get it now.

For toe in/out, I bought these fitting from Allz spared in Hornsby, it is the control arm mount bushing (fron and rear on the inside of the car)

its round, but drilled through offcentre, so depending on the angle at which you position them you will change the angle of the control arm.  You have on on the front and one on the back, so you can adjust them evenly to control camber, or one differently to the other to angle the control arm, thereby changing the toe.

got no idea how much they cost it was a while ago and i dont have the receipt with me.

The are sandwiched in by the control arm end bolts, so they cant move again (unless u collect a gutter and jay it)  but then you have bigger issues.

There is a pic below i have hastily drawn.

The one downside is when getting a wheel alignment, you have alot of dicking about to do on a 4 post hoist, to undo and adjust and do back up, until its happy.  sometimes (depending on ur wheel aligner) this causes crankiness and extra money to be required.C:\work\david\camber adjuster.jpg
