So the wife's car blew a head gasket and the local dealer wants more than what the car is worth to repair it :( so I have given it to the older brother to repair so we can at least get some $$ for it (I just don't have the time to fix it + I have zed to put back together so don't want to strip an engine when I could be installing stuff in the 260z)

Anyway the old car Holden Vectra are known for these issues so it has left the building. So we went car shopping this Easter. And we have purchased a 240. But sorry to disappoint nothing made by Nissan/Datsun.

It is a Toyota 240s Ipsum. These have a vvt 2az-fe 2400cc in-line 4 cylinder that is chain driven and 7 seats which is what we need with a growing family. They have a 5 star safety rating and this one has all the factory options apart from the sunroof (I don't like sunroofs - get a motorbike or convertible but don't cut a hole in a perfectly good roof). So reversing camera, front intersection camera's (there are 2 in the front of the grill, one looks to the left and the other.....well to the right so you can just stick the nose out a little turn on the camera and see past those 4x4 and trucks at an intersection).

As it is the S model = Sport option it has spot lights, aero package and adjustable suspension, and supershift ie there are up and down buttons on the leather steering wheel. We pick it up later this week.

Anyway here are some pics of the new 240s soon to be in one of the garages at home.

dont know if we get those here in Oz ?

We test drove a few rav4's with the same 2.4 VVTI motor, but found you had give it a bit to get it to dance...we settled on the V6-3.5 litre rav, which is a cruise missile ! (it would put most stock rb25det to shame)..202 killer-wasps in a shopping trolley !

important thing is the boss is happy  :P

Yeah those rav's have a quicker 0-100 than a VE SS ute. We looked at them as you can get 2 extra seats installed in the back, but not a lot of room. Kluger's are nice, but still that thirsty V6. I'm thinking turbo diesel for my (wifes) next car.

The economy from the toyota 3.5lt which is in the klugger & Rav4 is exceptional...its NOT a thirsty motor.

compared to my holden V6 colorado the toyota V6 is so much more refined...Id never have dreamed of having a toyota as a family car when I was "younger"  ;D

the 2.4L goes back to the days of the early 80's celicas...still a good engine.

Refined yes, but in the Kluger it's pushing an extra tonne so the fuel usage 'quotes' average in the 12's/100. Compared to a holden engine it would be amazing, but it still wouldn't have the power/torque or fuel efficiency of a turbo diesel.

Sorry NZeder, just discussing family cars here in your thread. You obviously searched around before you decided on this, what were your other 6+ seater options.

The important question.....will it tow the Zed?? plenty of room for spares when you go racing!!

with a Brain Crower 2.6l Stocker kit I would think so ;)

Kluger's are nice

I spotted my first Kluger badged Toyota the other day it was either a JDM import of Australian import as we don't call them that here. They are a Highlander and we have had Highlanders here in NZ for years. A mate in Oz is getting a Kluger for his next complany car he was telling me about it one day and I never heard of one....but it sounds like a Highlander and it is :)

You do get them in Australia and like the Kluger they have a different name.

The Toyota Ipsum 240s is the same car as the Toyota Avensis Verso Ultima with the only difference I can see is the park brake is a hand leaver vs a foot leaver on the Ipsum + a few other options but basically the same car :)
