As Im in the industry and have access to monthly data from a particular source I wont mention, I thought I would start this "Z" value finder which may help potential buyers, this is an industry guide based on sales data from quaterly private, wholesale and auction results, its only a guide.

Good work John.  Seeing those prices, it does make me wonder about $52K for a 260??  Amazing looking car, but $52K??

 

Having said that it would be good to find a 'good trade' 240 for $5-6K.

Any non educated potential "Zedder" would look at this and say wow I can buy myself a "Z", in reality we all know these figures are grossly out of synch with the real world, whats interesting though is watching the values climb, a year ago when I looked at this data it was about 15-20% down on todays prices.

 

Eventually you will see the "Collectables" effect take place, just like some of todays Ford and Holden Coupes have done within a single year or 2 where the demand for them send prices skyward and they start to reflect what the enthusiats like our selves always knew.

 

So lets take another peak in 3 months time and compare?

As someone with considerable industry experience as a valuer/used car manager for a large dealership (albeit many years ago) I understand the context of vehicle market forces and economics.  These prices are not reflective of the current market and obviously not a true reflection of what vehicles have sold for over recent times.  Any vehicle is subject to the 'laws' of supply and demand' and if the seller is pricing according to demand we see prices whether artificial or not become inflated.  I understand these principles to some degree and as an avid 'observer' of what is being bought and sold these prices (as listed by John, no offence mate!) are subjective at best and totally wrong at worst.  Zed prices have increased almost 80% in the last 4 years and my own personal sales reflect that.

No offence taken at all, as I said in my posts, just a guide, and it comes down to how they are read.

 

A bit of insight into the table.

 

First you have data that is collected from numerous sources which all skew the true price.

 

Second the data takes 3 months before its collated and sent to print, so what you are looking at is skewed data from 3 months ago at best.

 

Third, when you read "Good retail" what it is describing is this, a car in original condition with wear and tare respective to age, it should be registered and in general roadworthy condition, in other words a car that would need a LOT of work to return to pristine condition, let alone concourse.

 

So a 240Z in this general condition with a $13,000.00 tag wouldnt be far off the mark.

 

It's the latter models that are lagging in these pricing models, I seem to think the 240Z once again based on these retail criteria is showing the way and the rest will follow.

 

And Rev as I said and you re-iterated, they are far from factual considering what we all see happening within the Z community, and yes a 260Z 2 seater such as mine a few years ago was at something like $2,000, I personally wouldnt have sold mine for under $10,000 before I started the restore.

 

I think (Pardon the pun) that we are reading from the same Bible, and at least this is a bit of an education for some of the less up to speed enthusiasts out there as to how these figures work.
