Hi Everyone,

So I've been thinking about this a bit, especially because I cannot find a RHD original 240z mirror. I also realise there are plenty of other parts that are NLA for our Zeds. As the cars get older you can almost guarantee NOS parts will become harder and harder to find.

So it got me thinking, what if I could get certain parts remade in mass? I had a quick Google, but obviously somewhere like China would be ideal.

Anyone have experience trying to do anything like this?

I'm not sure but it looks like others have done this before for say early Rotary parts:

Obviously there are some ethical issues here too, in that you don't want to recreate parts to pass them off as Genuine when they are not. However I would be focusing on creating parts that are not possible to get from Nissan.

Hey Gav, I'm mates with a guy called Adam Crazie who is the marketing manager for Ironman 4x4 products and he is always travelling over to china and other places to research and develop parts for their catalog. I could have a chat with him to see whats involved and we may even be able to piggy back some of the manufacturing that they get done. Can't promise anything but I'll give him a call.

the major cost would be if tooling is required, so if the club had some money to lend towards the cause until the parts sell, anything is possible

for an investment cast (no real tooling cost and get about 100 units) i'd estimate a close to perfect reproduction mirror assembly to cost about $150, without the glass [i dont really know whats in it, so am just guessing and doubling it)...how much do they currently sell for, if you can find one for sale that is...

i'd be more than happy to help in anyway from a cad monkey point of view, i don't currently have a cheap way to get 3d data scanned, but i've seen some good videos about how to do it yourself

how cheap you can get parts out of china once you pay for tooling and start doing decent quantities will make you depressed, well it at least has that effect on me!

The idea is good Gav, i have been thinking about it my self, most regarding roadster parts, there is also a company selling bumpers on ebay, they are hand made out of stainless steel on a English wheel, can't remember if it is in Thailand or where it is, there is also India as a option, there is a huge portal on the web for China suppliers, Gasgoo is one for an example, they do most in car stuff, my biggest consern will be quality, you really have to be carefull here, regarding the bullet mirrors, there is a fabricator in UK who still makes them and they also make a mirror looking close to the 240Z mirror, why not contact them and ask if they could make a copy, the company is TEX http://www.texautomotive.com/
