hey guys i got into an accident on austraillia day in my 75 260z 2+2 and now its has been written off buy the shannons guy, i brought the wreck back so now i have a whole cars worth of parts (damage was to the rear and roof). im tossing up weather or not to strip the car and sell the parts or to sell it as is, it has new extractors and 2.25 pipe to tip (less then a month old), british 3 screw su's (have a rebuild kit for them too). apart from that its all pretty much standard. ill put some pics up soon if anybody is interested in anything or the whole car just let me know its located in werribee i paid $1000 for wreck back so anything above that would be ok

i might just do that, been stressing that hard about having a daily driver didn't even think to drift the 260 now shes off the road that or i could tarp her up until i can find a body cheap.

getting a wee bit off topic here but i need a new car and im thinkin about a toyota soarer preff a v8 one. has any1 owned one or just have any opinoins?

go the turbo six they are faster and more economical.

I had one it was a nice car to drive with plenty of power and they are now cheeeeeeeep!!!

Their most common fault is their digital dash can stop working, but if you troll the toyomods forums you will find the fix i think if they are done right they look very tough

Go either the v8 or the later model turbo. The 1uz returns pretty good economy and sounds nice with a single exhaust. The twin turbos I found to be laggy and soft even when they hit boost. The single turbo sixs are a bloody master peice but aren't that cheap, they are more powerful and have slightly different suspension but the difference in ride and handling is bloody amazing!

 

You can do alot to them for very little money as well. A simple resistor can replace the afm and a piece of plastic or thin ply wood and some screws is all that is needed to make the very best  cold air induction setup. There is more than a few site that can give you crap loads or actual researched information (as in scientifically proven) about the cars and how to upgrade them.

 

zzzzed is dead on the mark with the dash problem but its now not that big of a problem (well you cant drive you car with out the dash as the engine wont kick over) as there are a few guys who can fix them along with make the tv tuners work and read in english.

my twin turbo soarer didnt have any lag at all and pulled very hard.

Side by side at the lights with my mates vy ss  they where dead even up to 80 kmh wen we both backed off. They where both stock as a rock and the commy was a 6 speed manual

 

it also started an ran fine with the dash not working. Maybe it was just cirtain models that this affected

Aren't you on P plates?  In which case a Soarer would be a fantastic way to have to stop on every block for the cops to hassle you, not to mention they're surely on the 'not allowed' list....

srry ment to put 'not' before v8 i can drive the 3ltr l6 one though ya? just not the turbo or v8 model. even though it seems the 3ltr version is the rarest ones about, can the turbos be turned off on the 2.5ltr to make it leagal? or can i claim the v8 (with towbar) as my work car as ive started a business and need to move heavy vending machines arond each one weighs about 350kgs and the trailer holds 2 at a time. other cars ive been looking at are bmw 525 93-96, silvas and skylines but ive been told there all cop magnets if your on p's. is there anything thats fast and not cop bait lol

I settled for the 1uz after test driving a whole bunch of them turbo and non turbo across the board, did want the later model vvti 1jz because they pull like a freight train but they were too expensive. I am usually a straight six man all the way but the twin turbo 1j just seemed to small and due to the omission of vvti lacked down low power and it seemed to feel like they were "squishy"  in the top end I guess the best way to put it. It is personal preference I guess as well.  Dont get me wrong they are a wicked car no matter the engine config.

 

Sorry I didn't write that clearly. Soarers will not run without the dash in them (think its the tacho completing a circuit from memory), they run when the dash is knackered. They also wont run if take out the tv tuner (assuming you have one) unless you patch in a couple of resistors.

The 2j non turbo are still pretty lively suckers despite the lack of a snail. But if you want to tow things I would think that the v8 or even the single turbo vvti 1jz is the go. If you can get away with it the single turbo vvti as a work bus would be freaky awesome, they pull like a run away train from the get go. Had shivere loads of fun test driving one, sort of reminded me of a tt 300zx.

 

One thing that always got me about them every time you get in them is the door hinges! They are massive and look like you could swing a tank hatch off them!

 

525s are wicked fun as well, I had a 540i which little did I know (until some time after i bought the car) that the engine in the 540 was just a newer version of the 1uz with coil on plug and an updated inlet mani So i basically had two cars with the same engine one after the other

Errr.... No.  Suggest you do a little reading if you want to find out why.

You could try, but it'll still have P-plates, and its still a Soarer.  If you want something that the cops will hassle you less in, you're probably better to go for something european, for some reason (in my experience) they seem to hassle euro cars with P-plates less than Japanese cars and dunnydoors - unless of course its a well known performance euro.  Of course, euro cars generally cost more money to look after, as they don't take neglect/lack of maintenance as well as Jap/Aussie cars.
