bluerat Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 G'day guy's, just a quick question. The ported head that came with my car is a P90a, but the entire valve train has gone missing some time before I purchased it, I have a N47 head complete from a Patrol and was wondering if the valves etc are the same and would be a bolt on swap. The reason I'm asking is that I've heard that the P90a etc have longer/shorter valves than other L6 heads, and I have no P90a valves to compare them too.... Cheers Hodgo Quote
stevo_gj Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Is this useful? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,6012.0.html Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 The P90a head has hydraulic lifters. I'd have to guess no, it wont bolt on. Quote
Riceburner Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 The hydraulic lifters are no longer available Quote
kolonelklink Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 there's a video out there by big phil on converting hydraulic to solid lifters, also I'm not certain because i havent had any n47 heads but the p90's have shorter valves than other heads so this probably applies to the n47 as well. -Cheers, Pete *edit* by that i mean that the n47 valves are probably too long for the p90a... FYI i'd be interested in that n47 if you decide to unload it.. i havent got one so im curious... if theres any parts you need let me know i might be able to find something worth trading Quote
bluerat Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Cheers Guy's. Alrighty, so first up, this puppy is not hydaulic lifter type and if I use the entire top of the N47, towers and all (I know Lurch, I know...) will it work? I'll be using a re-ground 76 degree cam...so could the 2mm difference in the valves be cancelled out with some lash pad tuning??? Mr Klink I would be happy to swap the head for a 1981 Maico 490 Mega2 from your homeland...as I have an urgent need for 1. LOL. Alright how about a P90a? Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Cheers Guy's. Alrighty, so first up, this puppy is not hydaulic lifter type ... I was under the impression that the "A" in P90A meant it had hydraulic rocker arm pivots (lifters). They looks pretty much like a standard head L series head, not like the modern Hydraulic lifter heads where the cam acts directly on the lifter which is positioned directly over the valve. NZeder Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 P90A US info again. I have seen 3 P90A heads here in NZ and they have all been solid lifters. In fact I have never seen non-solid version Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Well then. Another USA Z myth busted. Quote
