Scoota G Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I purchased this rear bar off another member for my 260Z which had over riders so i got an idea to weld all the holes up and also weld the over riders on and smooth it all back.. .. .. Here's some pics of the work so far. I'll be painting them for the moment but i'm going to try (next year) to get a good enough finish on the Bars that will allow me to get them chromed. Quote
Sirpent Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Very nice work ! Not sure about the welded in over-ridders but the rest looks great. Quote
Scoota G Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Funny that, neither was i at first but i thought i would try it and if i didn't like it i could just Zing them off. By the way if anyone wants a 260Z rear bar that a bit wavy they can have my old one for nuthin. Also i am looking for a set of front over riders. Quote
hunterzed Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Thats looking pretty good Mark. Its come up nicely with the paint. Quote
reverendzed Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Well done Scoot that looks great! Quote
Scoota G Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Thanks Rev. Thats the rear bar i got off you. Here it is back on the car after 20+ hrs work. I started on it Sunday afternoon and finished it today (Tuesday). Quote
garvice Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 When I was trying to decide whether I wanted overiders or not, I thought it would be cool to have chromed overriders without the rubber. Looks good Quote
Scoota G Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 Ok i changed the topic name as i'm starting on the front bar. It's not nearly as wavy as the old rear one was but still has gap and angle issues (which shall be addressed) So i got the front overriders off Mossy and sanded them all back ready to weld to the bumper. Quote
Scoota G Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 So into it today and i must say that the front was a lot straighter than the rear one was. More of the same as the rear, more grinding and welding. Quote
Scoota G Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 The front of the bar had obviously had a tap before so i had to cut a slice out which also solved the gaps on the side. For once the bumper sticks out further than the bonnet. Quote
Scoota G Posted December 23, 2009 Author Posted December 23, 2009 Pics of the paint going on. Dang it's hot out Quote
RB30X Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Nice job. Do you have any more pics of the 'slice' being cut out? I have a 260Z front bumper that I'd like to put on my 240Z but it seems a bit wider for what ever reason. If I take out a slice like you did, it would fit. Either that or I was thinking of cutting the sections out where the over riders sit flush with the verticle grill line so I just have two side bits with nothing over the grill itself. Do you know what I mean, does anyone else like that look or not? Quote
Scoota G Posted December 23, 2009 Author Posted December 23, 2009 Here's a pic of the middle cut out, i'll just have a look at what i actually did take photos of. Quote
Scoota G Posted December 23, 2009 Author Posted December 23, 2009 I didn't take a picture of the slice i cut out but what i did was cut from the rear of the bar with a hacksaw and then bent one edge down. After that i fitted it back to the car, bent it to where i wanted it, and then marked it with a felt tip. It was the smallest of slices that needed to be cut out. I have one picture of it on the car with the marking. Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Wow, great job Mark! I was only looking at mine the other day thinking that I'll need to tidy them up one day. The welded over-riders look pretty dang good Quote
