Hi guys,

I was reading a thread on hybridz about someone saying that 15x8 Rota RB's were  quite a close fit without spacers. I was wondering if anyone has experience with these wheels and would know whether a brake upgrade (say, hilux calipers) would fit in these wheels?

I understand that the 16x8's would be a better fit, but I prefer the look of the 15" wheels.

Cheers

Ray, the 15's will clear the stock brakes as well as the hilux conversion.

Worst case scenario is that you'll have to sand/grind down some of the casting on the calipers.

Also perhaps BenZed might be able to give more insight?

Having owned a set in the past of the RB in 15x8 they did not clear the setup that I had at the time which was large and did not clear any of the 15" we tested.

That setup was 12.2" x 1.25" or 310mm x 32mm with a US Brake F88i caliper which is meant to be the same specs as Wilwood Superlite. The US Brake F88i caliper has 2 bridging bolts as that was the issue. I think they would have worked with a Wilwood but I did not have any so I can't say for 100%.

Now having said that the guy I sold my spare set of RB 15x8 had the normal Toy 4x4 and 300zx type setup and no issues at all lots of room. I think if I had a 11.75" rotor I would have been fine (298mm - which is why I have now changed my rotor setup so I have a solution that will fit in 15" rims should I want to change from my 16" to 15" (mainly if I decide to race and class rules limit to 15" rims))

I hope this is of use - and I might be able to get some pics the RB 15x8 with the toy setup in the next day or so as I need to pop over to Andy's place and return some CDROM/DVD's he has lent me.

That certainly has helped muchly. I'm not building a race car, so I don't need a huge brake setup. But it would be nice to be able to fit the regular hilux/300zx setup under there if I wanted to in the future.

Cheers

The S12 Hilux callipers is one issue - they cleared my 15x7 Superlites (close, but ok). The question I've got is; which ones will clear the 4Runner callipers with the Z31 discs?

The Superlites foul by about 3mm, and I don't want to buy another set of rims without knowing 100% that they will clear the S12W callipers.

Kalium,

I thought you have a 280zx??? Or am I thinking of someone else. If yours is a 280zx I really don't think you'll notice much improvement with the hilux setup. Not enough to justify the cost of conversion and the fact that you either need an engineer's certificate or run the risk of voiding your insurance etc.

If you have a 240/260 then all is good. Well worth the conversion.

Nah mate, 260z. I just run a 280zx motor. A couple of my mates ran the conversion and the difference was night and day.

Please do - I like the Rota RB's and I already have the S12W's fitted...

If you have photographic proof, and can detail all the sizing particulars, then I'd be much more comfortable ordering them!

If it helps at all I've had both 15x8 Rota's and 15x7 Performance Superlights fit over the same brakes I've had on my 240Z. Ford disc of approx 287mm and Nissan 300ZX 4 pot caliper. Tightest fit was with the Superlights spokes just missing the caliper. Rota's had a lot of clearance as the spokes are more rounded towards the outside giving plenty of room. Fitment within the wheel was comfortable.
