acdc-5 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Wellllll, We had a track day on the short track at winton,Car ran 100% allll day untill we did the passanger runs. Then this happened......... Quote
Mr240z Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Hey you lost a wheel.......Can't be good. Quote
acdc-5 Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 Yeah we got launched about 1m into the air, It pierced the fuel tank, tore all the inner gaurd out, smashed the exhaust/muffler, broke the rotor in half. All the wheel studs broke which is obviously how it came off. Im not sure why they broke as they were brand new 'nice' studs and i always torque the wheel nuts up on that car. Quote
S30Mike Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Holy shit, It amazes me when stuff like this happens.. it seems to be only up to god that this sort of thing can happen. Your front left seems to be shagged also.. So did the nuts come loose? or did it actually snap the studs off? That should NOT happen Quote
Scando Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Nasty stuff! I sometimes think about the amount of stress certain parts of the car are under when you're flogging it on a circuit.............and then decide it's best to stop thinking! Were you running wheel spacers? Quote
acdc-5 Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 Mike: It just snapped the studs right off at the hub, and yeh i think the bead of the tyre broke off as the rim has some slight damage on the lip Scando: No spaces on the back Its running a mini spool and 275/40 Toyo R888 on the back so they wouldve been under a fair bit of stress all day. Theyre a bloody good tyre too. This is my brothers car by the way Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 13, 2009 Moderators Posted September 13, 2009 Did it stop short of the wall? Thankfully no one was injured...and no flames! Quote
acdc-5 Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 Yeah kept away from the wall. You can see in the second pic all the sparks underneath plus the fuel tank was pierced so it could've been alot worse. Quote
waxhead Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Insane Glad every one is ok and car didnt end up going belly up on you Quote
620Z Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Yeah I was up there and had left the inner track (BBQ at the Cabins beside the track) and I heard from a mate who rocked up a little later that someone lost a wheel. Yeah that's a real shame. Hopefully the repair isn't as bad as it looks. :-\ The main thing is that your all safe and the car didn't catch fire. Good luck with the repairs. Quote
S30Mike Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Looks like a pretty tight car too, very unfortunate when these things happen. I had my front left wheel come off my Zed on the street! VERY scary. Quote
RB30X Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 I guess it's lucky you were at the track with all your gear on and safety marshalls etc. Imagine if that happened hitting a pot hole while on the highway on the way home. Quote
