After reading some postings last week, I just swapped my insurance from Shannons to GIO Vintage & Veteran

Im now paying $402 per year and the zeds covered for $23,000 and I get to salvage & unlimited Km's...Im quite happy with that.  ;D

With Shannons I was paying $348 for a measley $15,000..I couldnt build it for that !

business is business.  8)

Serious?

My family has been with GIO for 15 years, i got the Zed and wanted to transfer the policy over to the Zed, and they go "oh on redbook it says there only worth $3000.

So i laughed in the guys face and told him we were switching insurance companies.

NRMA gave us a really good deal and now the Zed is insured for a safe amount, and the premium is still good.

Well done Chriss. Yes Shannon's are quite strict on the $15,000- max limit unless you provide crap loads of doc's to prove it's worth a shite load more. Even then they seem to only want to go to 25K at the max. But seriously most guys spend way over 15K on there cars (Zeds) these days. I think they need to update some polocy's set many, many years ago.

Hey Chris did you supply pictures and did you just do it over the phone...

I need more info..GIO sad no to me cause they didn't know what a 240z is worth..

Hey guys

You should try LSV i pay t $97 a year for comprehensive insurance for limited use , full salvage rights a windscreen once a year and agreed value of 15000 sight unseen, would probably insure for more if i wanted. The only catch is you have to be a member of a Car Club like NDSOC, but still pretty good.

Cheers

Hey guys,

If you are based in QLD, Suncorp own GIO and I just got a quote from them from their vintage and vetran insurance for $99 per year full comp covering car worth $16K... Can't believe I was paying $400 with aami for nowhere near as much cover.

Wow some good prices there boy's. I guess it pays to shop around. Threds like this a good for steering you in the right direction to save some serious money.

sorry Pauly, missed your question...

Yes I did it over the phone...I got my policy / tax invoice in the post last friday from GIO , so its "official" ...mind you this LSV sounds exceptional...I wonder who underwrites them or are they an offshoot of one of the larger insurers ?

Just a follow up on this...Shannons contacted me when my policy expired...I told them theyd have to match the value and premium that GIO offered me, If they wanted my business..

They got me to email them some pics, and they agreed to match GIO's offer after some discussion.

In the end GIO & Shannons both offered to insure the zed for $23,000 , GIO was $402 and shannons where $407..I decided to swap over to GIO as I somehow felt more comfortable with them . Over the last few years It was like trying to get blood from a stone, trying to get a better agreed value from Shannons. Also GIO's veteran & vintage policy has unlimited Km's, whereas Shannons didnt.

These days the insurers are more hungry for your business than what they where in the bad old 80's & 90's...you just have to know how to deal with them and use tact. Im pleased anyway !  8)

there is a "modifying excess" - but they generally dont seem to care

talking to a mate who works for just cars, he was saying gio's classic division was no longer taking on new customers? as its all owned by scumcorp so there is no point them competing with themselves?

I just rang GIO and the lady told me as of yesterday they won't be taking any more policies for vintage ???

Yeah confirmed. They now transfer anyone asking for Vintage and Veteran to Shannons. Damn.

Yep...mine was unofficially the last car to be insured !!

As zedevan said, as suncorp owns GIO & Shannons, they didnt want GIO to compete with Shannons.....mongrels.

at least this will make it easier for me next year when it comes time to look around, Shannons would be obligated to insure it for $23,000 as Ive got it in writting..

I cant help thinking how many under-insured zeds are out there...mines clean but fairly stockish, but geez I reckon 20% of the zeds on here couldnt be replaced for under $25-30K.

I am insured with LSV (Lumley Special Vehicles) with only a $10,000-00 cover for $259.00per year including duty's with salvage rights and window glass!! Probably I should up the insurance value after looking at the this forum. Lynton 8)
