leonZ Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 hey evryone, i recently brought a 75 260z 2+2 for my first car, it was in a backyard under a tarp for the last four years with a very holy radiator, got it home had the radiator repaired put it back together didn't work, being my first car had no idea thermostat would be stooged too, refurbished that. now it all seems to be working (raditor is sucking and doin it's job) but my water temp gauge isnt working neither is the gauge its connected to i think its oil pressure, anyway i was wondering what would be stopping it from working and where is the plenum located and how can i check if it's working thanks location is werribee victoria Quote
Mr240z Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 The old Lurch is BACK.............What about location !!!! Quote
stevo_gj Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Hey LeonZ, Have a read of this post, it will show you what Lurch means. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,1402.0.html Sorry I can't help with the water problems. Good Luck Quote
maddos Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Your water temp pickup is located at front of thermostat housing assembly. Think it's a yellow wire which pushes onto a large pin. try pulling wire off and cleaning connection, might just be a bit of corrosion. The plenum question?? A plenum is the air intake on an efi motor. You won't have one. Quote
stevo_gj Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Yeah since your car has carburetors it does not have a plenum, instead it has a carby manifold. As for checking whether its working, well I have not the foggiest what you mean. Maybe it means checking for leaks. A plenum is literally just the air intake, its a solid cast object. I've never heard of one 'not working' unless its got a hole in it? So maybe that is what you need to check for. See if there are any holes in your carby manifold. Also, you should be more clear in your wording about what your problems are as I am really struggling to understand your post. There are some really helpful and knowledgeable people on this forum (i'm just a noob) but if you don't write your problem out in an easy to read format then they won't be bothered trying to interpret it. Photos might help your cause if you want something identified within the engine bay. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 3, 2009 Moderators Posted June 3, 2009 If you want to test the gauges, just remove the temp sender (the yellow wire under the top radiator hose on the thermostat side) and attatch it to any metal on the engine. If the temp gauge starts to move all the way to hot, gauge is fine but sender is stuffed or poor earth. You can check the oil pressure gauge in the same way. Its that round thing with a wire coming out of it next to the oil filter. Quote
