ok so im not exactly an expert on cars or anywhere nere it, but i love my 260z even though i hardly get to drive it

anyway im just curious on what options are available and whats involved in repainting my z?

i want to get the job done properly so remove all rust by sandblast or what ever method first then paint, i aslo want to have the engine bay done at the same time, does this make things more difficult?

anyway the car is currently a daily driver with straight body and only minor rust.

For what your asking I budget 6k+

Quality of the job depends on how much $$$ you want to spend.

The problem with saying "straight body with minimal rust" is that you cant actually be certain of that... Removing old paint and sandblasting a vehicle is a sure way of findin thin metal, which the blaster may go through, and all kinds of other scary things...

I would be really suprised if a beater gave you an exact quote to do a bare metal respray, unless he said all repairs are at an hourly rate...

As Lurch said, budget $6+K for a bare metal respray adventure but just understand that it could be more if nasties are found...

yeah i only have 2 or 3 grand to spend, so working out which steps to skip.

any rough ideas on break up costs? so how much just for blast to bare metal? and how much for bare metal respray compared to just a normal respray?

If you got the BARE shell up on a rotisserie, the media blasting would be roughly between $400-$600.

I had me old Bus resprayed in 2pac for 2k cash, but it was a very cheap job...

For bare metal, because it required more work, I'd say 4k. But that's being VERY conservative...

Have have gone down this path twice.......my Zed was bare metalled and repainted in 1992 with minor rust repairs .....cost $3K........repeated this exercise in 2007 with more extensive rust repairs and a much better overall job and spent $10k.

As it has been said...........you get what you pay for.

hmm looks like i will saving, will most likely repair evident rust and just respray

If I was you, I would take care of the problem areas and respray in the same colour. That bronze colour is great I think, shame not more zeds around in that colour anymore. Changing colour is a huge job, but touching up the exiting paint and giving it a refresher is not a big deal. Besides from the pics you uploaded it looked fairly straight and clean as is.
