Suspension Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I am looking at upgrading the suspension of my 74 260z 2+2 because it is soft and won't hold an alignment.  The car is just used for cruising.  I am planning on replacing the bushings with urethane ones then new shocks and any other steering parts that are worn.

There are a number of manufacturers of urethane bushings including Energy Suspension, SuperPro, Nolathane etc.  Which are better?  Energy Suspension have a complete kit for the 260z's.  Are they easy to install and do they work well?  I will talk to Fulcrum about the shocks and bushings but I am hoping to get some other information before doing this.

Won't hold alignment?! Something is seriously wrong there - not just worn bushes...

I've used SuperPro purple polyurethane - harder than rubber, but not as harsh as the red Nolathane.

Very easy to install, but it depends on your skill level.

If it has the original damper inserts in it, get these re-oiled - much better option than installing crappy Monroe etc inserts ;)

Kings lowered springs are excellent for doing the highway duties - firm, but supple enough to take out road vibrations.

^^ he is right.

Fulcrum on fairfield road yeerongpilly was where i went for my superpro set and kings springs. I saw the full set on ebay but preferred to buy them at fulcrum when I had the money, not in one fell swoop.

If you lower your car and replace your bushes ( esp the front radius rod ones ) i guarantee you wont be able to get the geometry right so you will definitely need to do alignment then. One word of warning.  Midas and 2 bridgestone specialists flatout refused to do alignment on my car cos it was lowered ( couldnt get it on the lift apparently ). Thankfully waynepark in milton can do it they do race cars so I expected as much.

I haven't had any suspension work done by them but I got new tyres and a wheel alignment there. Very very friendly and helpful (gave me a number for a guy to get my harness engineer approved). And the cars they work on are pretty much all race cars. They always have exotic race cars out the front, they used to work on a ford gt40, until he blew an engine or something

You were parked there today, right? I swear I caught a red 2+2 in the corner of my eyes parked at a shop in milton next to a Lotus or some other expensive sportscar.
