RBZ 260 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I know its not a Z but still a nissan and still a sports car and still rear wheel drive. After searching for a while finaly got one yesterday. It will be my weekend car but my better halfs daily. the S14 will go to retirement after a refresh and into storage and taken out only 3 month in a year to blow the cob webs off. or a emergency car if any other one dies. its 01 200sx Spec R with 6spd manual. it will be lightly but police friendly modified car once i finish with it. so no big HP or crazy body kits. just lowering nice set of rims and stealth everything else. after little bingle repair she be as good as new. RBZ 260 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 thanks guys, was after a red one (other half wanted red) and my choice was pearl white or blue. but i guess u take what presents itself at the time. Quote
Aaron Neubauer Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 The girls like driving S15s for some reason, I hardly get to drive mine, the missus always gets to the keys before I do My only dislike of the S15 is the gearbox, I get sick of changing gears so much while driving around town! The close ratios are good for the hills though Quote
zedevan Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 dam you, whats the reason behind garaging the s14? That colour has grown on me alot after seeing it heaps as one of my mates had one in it I'd be happy with any colour but red, yellow, black in that order...so i guess that leaves white, grey or blue as the colour i'd want, but the order changes often lol I figured i couldn't justify paying the extra to have an s15 as a daily i'd rarely get to drive how it should, and loose out so much in functionality, so instead i am making the outback a bit nicer (more money into the zed)...i'll let you know how i feel about that decision in a few months lol Quote
RBZ 260 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Yeah Neuby i got same prob with the s14. She wont get out of it. i think they like the rush when turbo kicks in. in particular on S14 second gear is lethal. breaks all the 110 national speed limits by 15km/h (and few otehr things on the way ) She had a n15 Pulsar with few mods and she loved it. though personaly was underpowered and anything but city driving was useless. Once we moved in together i tried convincing her to sell the N15 and to get S15.In meantime she can drive the S14 till my 260z was ready for road. had troubles but once i told her to take the S14 to work the pulsar was quickly forgoten and sold. though than i had an issue convincing her for us to get an S15 as she was way too happy with S14. but i wasn't. Not happy about the car being driven. So that brings me to your question Evan why garaging it? I had the car since 1998 im second owner and only had 28k when i got it. its very clean car and well looked after. Also has huge sedimental value as it was a gift from my old man (now passed away) and my first "affordable" dream car. I think first nite i slept in it couldnt explain the excitement when it was sitting in the carport. Also both car and me share lot of good fun times and also not so fun times. All the great races won and the occasional just loss agaisnt lot more hyped up cars was just as memorable. All the improvments from factory spec to "my" spec. Than the heartache when things blow up, but still we pressed on and still after almost 11yrs i still enjoy driving the S14. Now i'm too worried about getting it written off and loosing it as the value of the car droped in insurance view that doesn't take much to end up on the auction. now in somewhat more detuned form (has few small issues hence the refresh needed on suspension and few pesty aftermarket parts giving a ghost ie blow off valve)but for my missus its still fun to drive and will for me to once i fix the issues. Almost tempted to return her to stock. still got all the original parts , but nah..... even though now its very rare to see a nice unmodified S14. Even when S15 did come out back in 2000 i couldn't justify swapping for one. the S14 was so much more than the S15 besides the looks. Ie the 6spd was weaker than 5spd and i was allready on my 2nd one, the expensive cluch intercooler and suspension, the niity problems that got fixed which were going to plegue the S15 as well so didnt bother till now. The S15 does drives better (not sure how since everything is same as S14) feels more like a go cart from word go while s14 was bit more of a hmmm whale without some mods. lot more sporty interior and seats are lot better. so had to have one. it was an S14 but just better in all departments where the S14 bothered me. that to side i do love my silvias ie S12,S13,S14,S15 (even the old 65 MR Camouflage love to add one but only 5 or so in OZ i think that wont happen) great performance cars for your buck. to me the 200sx is what 240Z used to be in the 70s.affordable sports car that can compete cars 4 times its value (with few light mods) S14 200sx was my first love Evan yeah my colour prefferances were similar to yours. On the end didnt care what original colour it is ill be happy. than again at the auctions u choose what u get. Neuby short gear ratios LOL should drive my Z than. yeah as i know the 6spd are bit weak compared to 5spd hence the reason my missus will be driving it mostly. though my S14 gearbox #4 is currently in also clutch #5 and diff #2 but the SR20DET still beats as it did back in 1997 when it rolled of the line with the original turbo. supposed to be arriving tommorow (sunday) from its long distance from Perth to Adelaide. Can't wait left friday. im sure the truck driver has rockets and wings attached to his truck. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Jane 180sx is a spin off of the S13 silvia. as S13 silvia its great car to drive if not better.also looks bit more sporty with its sloping rear windows and pointy front end. if u get one aim for the the type X 97-98. they are the best looking ones. Also most expensive. been around 180sx and S13 silvias for long time. most of my mates and relatives had it. even though they moved on they regret selling them and constant chat how good was the 180sx LOL... Lynton Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I have an S15 R-Spec that I purchased new in 2001, yellow in color, it would have to be the most understated car that is on the road, still in stock standard form other than a manual boost switch under the bonnet that runs about 13 pound boost rather than the factory 7 pound I think? The car has now done 180,000kms without a problem, still on the same clutch, 2nd battery, 50,000kms out of each set of tyres, front brake pads lasted till 140,000kms, still looks as good as the day I purchased it and I have just put new front brake rotors on it, a brilliant tight no rattles car exceptional highway tourer especially when you want to overtake huge long trucks......exhilerating!! My daughters partner is selling his nicely spec'd R-Spec 200sx if anyone is interested you will not be dissappointed http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=6951127&keywords=s15&tsrc=allcarhome&__Ntk=CarAll&__Nne=15&__Dx=mode%20matchany&PriceTo=414&__No=15&PriceFrom=395&__D=s15&silo=1011&seot=0&__sid=11E497042D96&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294963846%204294963493%20395%20414%20900&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Price_Decimal%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cpCar_Model_String%7c0&__Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&Cr=4&__Ntt=s15&trecs=41&__Qpb=true I have owned early model Datsun Fairlady sports cars and had most of the Zed series cars and like the grunt of a six cylinder machine, so when I first owned the 200sx I purchased it reluctantly because the 350Z had not been released. This has been to my benefit as I still own my 200sx it has been that good and still holds adrenalin for me so I have not worried about a 350Z. see my yellow car below. Lynton Quote
RBZ 260 Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Lynton i know what u saying i still feel the same with mine except my S14 is on 4th clutch and box and 2nd diff. (bit rough with the shifting while giving someone a go ) though ive always been a Siliva/200sx fan. do did hava a privelage of driving a 350z track and other than the value of the car i wouldnt swap it for my S14. S15 again is so much nicer to drive than the S14. so looking forward to driving it. Quote
Lynton Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I wonder if Nissan will ever release an "S16" there is a hole in that segment of the market that surely would be perfectly suited the similar price range? Lynton Quote
RBZ 260 Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 well if S16 looks anything like they planning than i think the s15 will go up in value. did u see the so called spy shots of the possible S16? i think Renault got their finger in again and spoiled it. yuk. Quote
620Z Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 That Red "R Spec" looks nice. Always liked them. Quote
