Insurance

Just wondering what kinda "deals" people have on their insurance and if there's a particular company i should go to?

Gav i remember you saying something about >30years old car insurance, and mine's now 30 :D are there any restrictions on the amount your allowed to drive it?

I just called my current company and asked if there were any restrictions on what size wheels i put on and they said as long as it fits the legal requirements and wheel shops would know what they are, so sounds like a good way to push the blame off me if they did care! and they asked if it was going to be the only mod, and i said well i need to change the susspension as its rather old now, and they said, its 3rd party so it doesn't really matter what you do to it...i wonder how much they will stick by that, as they wont insure any turbo or v8 for someone under 25...

I'm paying $400ish for only 3rd party fire and theft and their quote for full comp was over $1500 and they were going to value the car at like $3000, so seemed very VERY pointless, and just cars was the same sorta thing

I was told buy the guy on the dandenong cruise with the r33 to go into shannons and show them my car and ask for insurace from them that way instead of over the phone, although i drive my car atleast 20km a day so i dont know if that rules me out?

Try GIO I get my car covered for $300 full comp with GIO. I have told them about wheels, exhaust. However I have to inform them about the seats installed recently.

I have an agreed value of $10,000.

Give them a call, I have my optioned for regular driving to Uni however I only use the car on weekends now anyway.

Hi

I guess age makes a big difference. I am with Shannons for full comp with agreed value of about $7500, ownership of the wreck. You can also specify the annual distance travelled in my case about 4000 Km's and it will adjust the premium. Premium is around $300. You can also adjust coverage and premium if you take it off the road for any lenght of time for restoration.

It was the best deal I found when shopping around as it was tailored towards the classic part time car.

They were not so competitive on the 350Z though.

non standard engine is generally the big issue. My 260Z had a 280zx efi engine in it, so that pretty much limited me to the specialist modified car insurers. I was with Just Car, at 23 was about $360 for 3rd party only.

I got similar prices from Unique Car & another one, but the catch is the excess - Just cars was $850, and the others were around $1500...

does your family or anything have their house with GIO gav? just wondering, as the only reason the company i'm with will even insure me is because everything in my household is with them!

Vertex, as far as i'm away most people here dont tell anyone they dont have the standard engine when they change to a 280zx engine but better to be safe than sorry i guess, but i know i'd just play dumb hehe

320-400 is quite normal for 3rd party for any car, if you are under 25, as long as its not a import....

ive gotten qoutes of around 400-750 for full comp, less than 5000k a year, with agreed 13.5k value, im rating 3 thou, but still only 22,

if it's any help, i got quoted (can't remember exactly) for 15k agreed value (upon inspection) by Shannons, for $1,300 with no restrictions on how much i can drive etc. I'm only just 20. so in the 'dangerous' category.

if you are in ndsoc, mention this when u get a quote as it dropped my quote down quite substantially.

mind you, have a stock l24 with headers, so basically stock.

Not long to go now

Yeah I know, but its better safe than sorry, especially if they refuse the claim. I had injection anyway, so pretty easy to spot. Not that the engine number isnt a dead giveaway if you know your stuff.

Im in Qld so its probably a bit different up here, but Ive just received my renewal notice from Shannons.

Agreed value of $25K on extreme limited use 4000 km/year although they've never asked me for a speedo reading and the cost is approx $380 I get the car in the case of a writeoff. And I believe Im covered at driver training days and the like. You have to specify all your good bits like wheels, stereo, motec etc etc. and as someone above said, I took it to them and gave them a look. The suburb where you live and the anti theft things you have installed also make a difference.

cheers - Simon

ps. Im an old fart >25 so that would have a bit of an effect

well i called shannons, they wanted $1000 a year with a 700 excess due to my age for it to be insured as a $5500 car , unique cars wanted a bit less but their excess was twice of shannons, and shannons give you free windscreen replacement once a year or something?

but yeah, i called gio and for a bit under $300 they'll insure it as a $5500 car with a $750 excess but i get the car back if its written off ($60 less if i dont want to get it back, but i'm guessing it'd b worth getting it back for something...) so yeah just going to read into it more when they send the stuff out, i dont think i'll be limited driving wise as they didnt mention it, just as soon as i said the yr of the car they said well you get full comp for basically the price of 3rd party :D

if i said i wanted it insured as a 7g car do they ever inspect it to say it is worth 7g or ?

if you are a member of NDSOC, try pulling that line on Shannons.....

it helped a bit (or they said it did)!

As a 20 y.o. male i'll be trying everything to get insured for anything decent!

thanks for the tip, i'm not a member of the ndsoc and have asked companies if it makes much of a difference to see if it would justify the $65 joining fee hehe. gio said it doesn't change anything unless you want it to have limited km's etc and is a show car

well after calling more companies again and reading through gio's product disclosure thingy i'm going to switch over to them at the start of next month. my current company said they couldn't come close to matching gio's prices unless i changed my DOB and even then its more!

so i've ended up getting it insured as a 9g car for $316.35  :D no limit on the amount i drive it, with an excess of $850 due to my age :?. the only issue my parents have raised is that gio is knock for knock or something so even if i'm not a fault there is a large chance they will make me pay my excess? but the way i see it, it'll be better than some other company telling me my car's only worth 3.5g like it was previously insured for so screwing me over that way!

so glad my car finally turned 30! although on this gio paper work it says the cover is for cars >31...but they are the ones who told me it was my only option so?

GIO if you're not in Queensland and if you're in Queensland Suncorp...

I got a quote today.... I'm only 22 and my car is pretty much stock standard the only mod was auto to man conversion and they quoted me $270 full comp with a value of $5000

$400 excess and a $300 age excess that will go when i'm 25....

That was about 400-500 cheaper then shannons.... and the excess was even cheaper...

yep sure is huh :D i dont really get how the agreed value bit works, i'm guessing in the event of an accident they want you to proove it is worth what you said?

i decided to pay the extra to get my car back if it is written off and then it was like another $18 to get it insured as a 9g car vs a 5.5g car, i should probably tell them i've upgraded the headlights :D
