XRQTR Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Just curious as to what differences if any there would be with regard to cam profile and spc between the different heads i.e. would an N42 cam be the same as an E88?? Also would a GQ Patrol 5 speed box be better or worse than a 280ZX or the same?? I'm asking because a mate is wrecking a GQ which I already said I want the motor from but it has a 5 speed as well so just wondering if this would be a good grab as well as the engine. As for the head I think I may have hurt a valve in my boredom over the last couple of days (semi retirement sux) but have a spare e88, just wondering if cams are the same as I would like to play around LOL. C.A.R. Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Cams are the same mate - go for your life. The GQ has a L28? If it does, the engine has a different sump & pickup arrangement, so it won't bolt in without a swap. AND I'm not sure there's a provision (plug) for the dipstick & tube to be fitted for the rear bowl sump. And I think you'll find the Patrol gearbox is completely different......... Quote
XRQTR Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 How different is the box?? mounts?? stick positioning?? or just gearing?? GQ is around 80-83 isn't it?? Or was that MQ??? Quote
C.A.R. Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Ahh, MQ. It's a 4WD box Steff! I highly doubt you'll get it to fit... And I believe they're a 4-speed. Quote
XRQTR Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 So what head would/did the Patrol come out with?? Quote
luvemfast Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 I had an L28 powered MQ back in the day. They did have 5 speeds in later models, I think MK. Don't think it would fit a Z. Isn't the transfer case connected? Not sure what head they had though. Quote
XRQTR Posted December 20, 2008 Author Posted December 20, 2008 Not sure I haven't really had a close look at it, I was thinking about getting the whole thing to use just as a spare/tow car, but it needs too much work to the body, will have to take a better look I think. Quote
