PS: i dont want a turbo i dont want an engine conversion just something that has some power and is easy to get done no custom stuff.? Quote
Glen Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Im getting my motor built right now, Len Brennan is building it and i think he is keen to do more. BTW i've gone a F54/N42 build with triple Dellortos. Is that Z shop performance you spoke to in glen iris? Quote
620Z Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 G'day Mate. I am not sure on that stuff for you. I am sure a few guys on this site might be able to help you. We have a BBQ this saturday near Lilydale. At the moment we have over 30 Zeds confirmed. I don't think I saw you on the list. You are more than welcome to come along to that and I am sure you will get some ideas there. Cheers Quote
k1ngtr Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 yea thats the 1 in glen ires so where is yours getting done and how much is it getting done for ? they supplying the block ? fill me in on the details obviously your way ahead of me .. Quote
Glen Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Len lives in hastings S.E. subrbs, as soon as my motor is finished my mate is getting his done, then if i were you i would book yours in aswell to Len. Depending on what you want done and what its primary use will be will deicide on the final $$. What are your intensions with the car. I built mine for track days and street use. Overall price so far i have spent $900 on triples and $340 on a ceramic clutch. I havent a bill from Len, Overall we are expecting 135rwkw which will suit me just fine. Keep in mind if you were serious you could spend 4K alone on just the head with flow testing etc so you have to draw the line somewhere. A rough estimate on my motor will be between 3 - 5k. I went with 40mm triples as i think 45's are more for full race applications. 40's will give me plenty of bottom end response which is perfect for street. running 10-1 compressoin and everything balanced should be a nice little club motor. k1ngtr Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 mate i think im going for the exact same goal as you track days and street use. Im used to having 260kw at all four wheels and instant boost but this will be a big change! Did you supply the block? or did he supply it? I have a standard 260z engine runs perfect no problems at all and standard carb's. Is this place a performance shop or is it someone who does engines backyard ? Quote
Glen Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 He's a engineer that works from home. Big sheds etc Lens built plenty of race motors in his time. You can work your 2.6 aswell http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,2415.0.html Problem is trying to find some Flattops for it, thats why i opted for a 2.8. I have seen one set on US ebay but they are pretty rare. I bought my own block/head out of a 280Z wreck, nearly spun a main bearing and 2 of the cam journals were cracked but the bottom end was fine. Hunt round for a 2.8 N42/F54 or N42/N42 combo. you will find one soon enough. I think one sold on ebay not that long ago for $200-$300. Quote
C.A.R. Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I hope you've got an open Cheque Book if your wanting to get the Z Shop to do the work... Quote
k1ngtr Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 yea i read that thread b4 was interesting, Im on the net all day so i guess i can hunt one down but it will not be easy as it looks like im not the only one looking for a new motor. I want a tough reliable motor with good power let me know when yours is in i would love to take a spin in a Z with this build to see what i have to look forward to ! Quote
Glen Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 not a problem, Only downside is he doesnt pump the motors out that quick but on the upside good things take time It would probably be quicker if you gathered all the interenals yourself and then went to Lens and dropped everything off. Shop at http://www.swmotorsport.com.au/index.html?lmd=39067.093299 thats where i got all my internals from. BTW when you sell your GTR you will forget what the power feels like. Quote
k1ngtr Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 yea i know i didn't drive it for 6 months got back in it i thought i was in a drag car! MM im not really good at the sourcing my own parts thing i have no idea where to even start! Quote
Glen Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I hope you've got an open Cheque Book if your wanting to get the Z Shop to do the work... Work.......thats if they do any lol Funny you should mention that, the motor that im getting built came out of a car that my mate bought as a wreck, but a little more than 12 months before we bought it the previous owner got the "Z Shop" to do some work to get it all ready for a RWC. We read the reciept and on the reciept it listed all sorts of new stuff, bushes, rust repairs etc. Now when we pulled her down guess what, it still had the ridgey bushes in it and the rust repairs omg it was comming back twice as bad and the bog was everywhere. He charged this poor kid $1500-$1800 IIRC Quote
Glen Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 There your P90 head http://ozdat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=15141 Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I have an F54 block with P90 head already attached, an l28 for those that need the hint, has no inlet anything has an ex mani bolted to its, condition unknown but car was a write off (stat) in rear end so id say it was running a bit too well when hit!!!! have pics available, can get on a pallet to send via courier, will need to be able to lift off at your end!!! Has an auto attached to it, yay. in adelaide. open to offers cheers nathan '""'nbrown ""(at sign)"" kern.com.au"""'""" Quote
Charlie Boy Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Speak with Daniel Moore he can make your L26 engine into a 2.8L as basically you already have a L28 crank in your engine you just need to get the block over bored with new pistons, saves buying more stuff. Quote
