Toecutter Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I have some memory of reading that ducting the front spoiler holes to your front brakes to cool them is easier to do with vented rotors than solids. I think the thread said something about cold spots on the solids vs the vented ones which tend to spread the cool air out through the vents of the disc??? Does anybody have any advice on this and how much can you expect it to help such a set up to cool the discs or reduce brake fade by? Sulio Quote

Scando Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 If I were to do mine again I would enlarge the holes in the front bar. The standard holes aren't very big and don't catch that much air. It will definately make a noticable improvement over having no ducting though. I cracked another rotor on the weekend Quote

mtopxsecret6 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 the r32 boys have problems with the brake cooling. they have found that if the air flow isn't dispersed evenly over the two sides of the rotor, it will cause thermal shock and crack rotors, on a regular basis. also, getting your air from the front bar from a hole on a flat surface will provide far greater air pressure than from a hole that has flow around it.. if you understand what i mean. Have you looked at different pad choice? whats the reason for brake cooling? are you boiling fluid? Brakes fade? rotor hot spots, ie. disc warp? what is the car used for? A better idea on what the problem is would give you a better answer to fixing it. Quote

I cracked both front rotors earlier in the year but they were a slotted set and every crack started in one of the slots (lots of small cracks but nothing too serious). I got a set of non-slotted rotors to try to fix the problem but DBA only make the higher grade ones as slotted rotors in the disc I'm using (Honda Legend) so I had to use the standard grade ones which it would seem aren't up to the job. I'm using PMU pads now which are brilliant! I haven't managed to make them fade yet but they're too good for the discs. I only have one more meeting to go this year and it's at Baskerville which is much easier on brakes than Symmons. I'll just get another set to get me through that then put on the 17's I got from Ben and find some bigger brakes that will fix the problem for good. Quote
