Need the diameter of the throttle plate and any other info.

Fairly small from memory, 50-55mm maybe. L24E is the same. Think I've still got a manifold in the shed with TB. If I get the chance I'll check.

Thanks for the info. Are there any larger ones available from later models that are easy to adapt (may be of the 300ZX)?

many use a 60mm TB from a NA 200sx with the SR20DE engine. There are number of places in the US that sell a adapter that bolt right on that line all the stock linkages up (however it is simple so you could make one your self)

I am sure that are others you can use also, 65mm falcon, bmw like me (required some mods on the TB, and porting of the intake)

Thanks for the info. That's what I was thinking - a ford 65mm item.

Found this on e-bay:

How hard would it be to adapt it? Will i be able to still use the stock L28 TPS? Would I have to modify the AFM as well?

Yep I guess no-one knows. I want with the BMW as a standard L28 TPS will fit on.

Of which model BMW is it and what diameter?

it is quite a common conversion for the l28, try googling it

If you can get that XR8 on Ebay for cheap, well and good, but if you dont, XF Falcons also had a 65mm TB. . .I used one on my turbo'd L28.

There were a lot of them at the wreckers and they go for not much cash. Just check the shaft play.

As said previously, you do have to mod you manifold to fit it

see this page:

I just got a plate welded onto mine since i know i'll need to change to cable throttle instead of linkage. Looks nowhere near as nice as the one on that 240. Cost me $50 for the TB at a wreckers, and about the same to get an adapter made up and welded on.

I got an XF 65mm T/B and welded up an adaptor that flares (from the local exhaust shop) from the 65mm down to the L28E intake manifold size. Seems to work ok. Obviously required a cable conversion as you can see (longest throttle cable known to man!), and as a further word of warning, if you are running EFI, make sure you DON'T get the t/b with the large rectangular switch-type TPS, next to useless.

Hi Dave, how come you didnt port out your intake manifold to match your TB? Is there an advantage / disadvantage to this setup? Mines gutted to about 62mm inside which I thought was the whole idea of upgrading the TB, as it is the smallest part of the intake system (after turbo).

Sid,

I am lazy as hell. That manifold was only ever a temporary measure so I just did what seemed easiest. The manifold makes less difference IMHO on a turbocharged engine as the air is being forced into the manifold, thus the pressure differentials that occur when the valves open are smaller, and consequentially, the deviations and waves equalise faster. I think anyway, haven't really spent enough time thinking about it.
