nat0_240_chevZ Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Very good. There is a few engineering jobs going with OZ MINERALS. Xstrata is a very good company to work for. Are you going coal or hard rock? mmm thought xstrata was copper ore mining/refining??? had a big job enquiry from/for them recently, but damn copper is pricey, especially when elcto-deposition almost 100% PURE!!!! it seems they do look after their workers too, from what i gathered.... what is it you will be doing there, drawings? checks &/or drawing updates??? please elaborate, as i was too looking at one stage @ a mech engineering job up there a couple of years ago. decided not to as i enoy city living too much, but with housing affordability it seems the only way to get 'really' ahead!!! nat0 Quote
stevo_gj Posted October 7, 2008 Author Posted October 7, 2008 Hey Nato, To be honest, I am not sure what kinds of job I will be doing. I'll be working at Oaky Creek which is an underground coal mine. Your right saying that Xstrata does a lot of non coal (copper etc.) but that is because they own the Mt Isa Mines. They also own heaps of coal mines and apparently are one of Australia's largest coal exporters. "Oaky Creek North – Experience all facets of an operating underground coal mine and undertake a wide variety of tasks/ projects." The above is the only job description I have from Xstrata, they are very unspecific. Here is the living conditions info: "Oaky Creek Coal is located about half an hour from Tieri so everyone who works at the Oaky Operations lives in Tieri and commutes each morning to site. The accommodation arrangements have not yet been finalized but I will note your request for a share house if it’s available. Your accommodation includes messing facilities (3 meals per day). Everyone goes to the MESS in the morning for breakfast, packs there lunch to take to work and then returns to the MESS for dinner. " I'm pretty excited by the prospect, should be a good experience and the money ain't too shabby either. Quote
Hunter Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I had a mate working at Oaky One , I am pretty sure it was Xtsrata, That was when I was doing my Diploma in Mine Ventilation. He was fly in fly out from Brisbane all flights paid. He loved it. Quote
stevo_gj Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Cool, yeah I chose Oaky North as its bigger. It had the same job description as Oaky One so there was no other way to choose. If I do end up working at the mines fly in/fly out work would suit me best as I still want to live in Bris. Quote
stevo_gj Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Well I've been working at Xstrata for a month now and I have enjoyed it so far. I have emailed Fulcrum to book my suspension job in for early January. Quote
stevo_gj Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 I've had the front suspension replaced, but am waiting on the koni reds to be in stock before I do the rears. It feels amazing and really grips the road, I am happy with the ride quality as well (its still quite comfortable). I also had the Hilux brake calipers fitted to replace my front disc brakes. There is a noticeable improvement in the braking power I have. No sponginess in the brake pedal either. I purchased the MSA bumpsteer spacers for 14" wheels but Fulcrum said they didn't clear my 14" Cheviots... but luckily I have not had any bumpsteer issues so far which is a godsend. Quote
Aaron Neubauer Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Nice. I also had the Hilux brake calipers fitted to replace my front disc brakes. There is a noticeable improvement in the braking power I have. No sponginess in the brake pedal either. I assume you upgraded your MC? Quote
stevo_gj Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Nice. I assume you upgraded your MC? Nah, wasn't necessary. Pedal feels great. Quote
stevo_gj Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Dropped the car into Fulcrum yesterday to get them to replace the rear shocks and springs. They rang me up today with some frustrating news. Apparently the PO replaced the rear suspension stuff with 280z running gear! They rang up koni and quoted the dimensions and Koni said that they needed the shocks from a 280z... So I am waiting on them to be shipped up from Sydney. I just thought it was weird for them to do that, what possible advantages could there be from putting what I'm assuming to be 280zx running gear into the 260z. Most of you are aware they did badge it a 280 so I'm wondering what other modifications they've made... Quote
