voltmeter in dash 260Z - always reading??

Hi all,

 

Has anyone come across the problem of the voltmeter in the dash working at all times, it is supposed to register voltage only once the key is turned on but for some reason my registers voltage all the time as soon as the battery is connected. I have triple checked my wiring (this is a resto project and now rebuilding) and can't really explain it. Has anyone seen this before and if so........... found a solution?

In my 2+2, It would always register 11 volts or so And once key was turned Drop to 3-4 - Dead battery wouldnt hold charge,

Although as far as i know mines electrical system hasnt been touched Might be ment to show at all times?

Its been that long since i had it together (coming up 5 years) i thought it was supposed to be normally off.
