Aluminum Oxidiseation.

Hi looking for ideas on treating engine aluminium parts that have that white powder oxidation on them from siting tooo long. Have just bought a car that has been in storage for a couple of years and all the parts are covered in this white powdered shit. eg water pump, rocker cover etc.

Thanks mate but didn't want to go to this extreme . might give it a coat of degreaser or WD40 and see how that goes.

Nothing hi-tech about cleaning oxidized aluminium alloy - hot soapy water and lots of elbow grease, any scouring pads or brushes used must be very soft and gentle or you'll end up scratching the metal. Can also add some vinegar to the water as that can help.

I've found WD40 quite useful in keeping parts from oxidizing again, but you have to reapply it down the track as it tends to evaporate over time.

Degreaser doesn't seem to do anything much other than degrease - you need to physically remove the oxidation.

My 2c worth anyway.

WD40 is what I use. Spray it on and wipe it with a rag.
