Argh u beat me to it! I was give a heads up on this car but was typing up my intro first.

I'd say this would be my ideal buy provided the rust hasnt totally destroyed the car yet..  I would definitely take a look.

If only I didnt have so many work/study commitments I would already be driving up to sunny QLD this weekend!

Yeah looks pretty decent but who knows how bad the rust is, the seller hasnt shown any examples of it. Going to take my mechanic down this weekend and take lots of happy snaps of the cars worst bits.

welcome to the forums btw  :D

this one was for sale somewhere else recently, can't remember where i saw it though

the 'spare roof' sounds ominous, looks like rust in the door jamb near the windscreen as well

suppose it is an early 240,but probably needs a shell strip and sandblast at the minimun, being handy with a mig wouldn't go astray either i'd say

it was on ebay few weeks ago. i had some more pics of it may have to hunt them down.

fair bit of rust near the hatch hinges and around the gutters.

if anyone has replaced a car roof its not a simple bolts off replace bolts on.

Also from memory seal panels and dog legs have seen better days. also recall the back slam panel fairly corroded and few other wierd spots like on top of the front guards near the doors

yep your right rbz260, this got passed in, the rust pics when 1st listed looked horrific, but no rust pics this time hmmmm.. :(

Posted

It's never been listed on ebay - i posted it on here a while back and whole lot of people that werent interested in buying posted in my thread and it got locked...

This is my first proper go at selling it.

Car sales only let me post 5 pics.

It does need stripping back and restoring properly but it's an old 240z - of course it's going to have rust.

The roof is just there if you want it you could cut patches out of it or something if you wanted...

The chassis rails are rust free too...

Suspension rocks!

Oh and to all teh people slagging off the price or the rust -1) its a datsun Z its gonna have some rust, 2) go find a 1970 matching numbers somewhere else with that lower chassis number and all that suspension and show me how im over charging

i dont mean to sound like an a-hole but bad experiences stay with you and if you applaud people for charging 20K+ for a restored one i think i am being reasonable...

I dont think ANYONE slagged you off regarding price. The reason the thread was posted was because it caught someones attention for all the right reasons ! Geez one person commented It was his ideal buy !

Rust we all know about, its the extent of rust that Im sure buyers would like to find out more on. The fact we muddled up ebay & carsales , well our memories fade us sometimes.

Its a good thing that people are discussing your car...its when they stay silent that you should worry.

Yeah not having a go at anyone in this thread at all.

Past experience just having sold a 2+2 260z and all the time wasters and whingers that you have to deal with. Specifically people offering you ridiculous prices... i had one kid offer me $1k for a car i had advertised for $3k because he had to ship it back to SA....

If anyone would like more pics or like to talk about the car give me a call i am more than willing to have a chat.

The worst thing to do I think is to sell a car. I hate it! People expect to pay next to nothing for  a car no matter how much you spent on it. Doesn't matter if you did a full nut and bolt resto or found it in a shed 20 years later in original condition. Everyone wants to find that "bargain". I think the price your asking for that car with matching numbers is good (if its all complete and original more so) Dont bother with the people that just look at the details...serious buyers look real deep into the car; underneath, rails, unibody etc. If I was to buy it, first thing to do is strip and place on a rotisserie! It will sell.

Yes, i think what we are getting at is that a car like this, in original condition needs a proper restoration. And due to the rust involved it isnt for those people that are expecting a really cheap resto.. But when restored it will be well worth it, and the price does look good. You just need to find the right sort of buyer, who is going to restore it properly and is after an early matching numbers zed.

mate i wish your car fetches 10k not 5k. these cars deserve that. (not to mention to people that own them gives them a nice smile that their toys are actualy increasing in value).

Like JP240z said. this is not for the beginer home restorer job but for someone who knows what they are doing.

i paid 2k for mine ( 2yrs ago) its a early 72 nowhere near as low number as yours. no matching numbers but with l28 and two defect stickers. but most parts are there (and some very rare parts on it too) and as typical Z has rust in usual places. some spots are better than others etc... so the price you asking is quite reasonable and fair for a matching number car.

this car should be bought by someone who knows what they doing to bring it back to former glory that it was some 38 years ago. and not to be tried out by someone that never seen a spanner and than when things get hard being disposed off in pieces. that will hurt me more.

Good luck with the sale.

;D ill have to start parking cars on the roof of the house. LOL 7 cars at the moment is enough.  need to get rid of some first to. but thinking about selling cars and crap you get just aint worth it.

i will be be looking at getting another one some time down the track but it will be a while (definetly another 2 seater or 280zx 2 seater) .BUT have to fix lot of them by the time that happens.

Just had a chat with my mechanic and mate in the club and they've advised me against getting this car. I'm not experienced with old cars, I don't have anywhere to store this car while I work on it (living with parents), and I cant afford a professional to do it all for me. It's like rbz260 said, it would be waste if someone like me was to get this car because I wouldn't have the tools or experience to make the most of it.

Basically, as much as I would love this car my circumstances won't allow me to buy anything but an already restored Z..  :'(

Good luck selling it though mate.

I would buy it, unfortunately I've started on a 260 2+2 restoration already.

But looks like a good starter car for someone who's looking at getting into the Z world..

Next time I'm going to build a 2 seater...  :D

I'd just like to say that I bought d3c0y's head, block & gearbox that he was selling in another thread and he was very good to deal with.  If anybody is interested in this car then I believe that you can be assured he is being honest about the work that the car does and doesn't need.

I finally got around to shipping the parts to Tas through the week, they look to be in great condition.

Thanks Jake  :)

Scando : so you were the #$% who bought that turbo setup!  ;D  Went down there to get the n42 head and so very nearly bought it on the spot!

I seen the car twice now and Jakes description is on the money very honest description.

Congrats on the sale  :)
