Hey Folks,

Where can I get engine block blue paint that is a close match to OEM for a 240z block? I don't want to order from California.

Any suggestions?

Trouble is, this is one of 'those' topics. Everybody has a different answer which they think is the correct one.

I've compared the colour sold by Classic Datsun Motorsports in the USA (I inherited three of their aerosols with one of my project cars) to some NOS Nissan-painted parts I have, and there was a very slight shade difference. Not one that I'd be too fussed about personally, but some "concourse" (sic) rivet-counters might not be able to sleep. I've also compared the British Standard colour I recommended, and it's just as good. I was going to have the original parts colour-matched, but the paint factors said I'd still see a difference due to the modern pigments vs old. They pointed out that - even if kept in the dark for 45+ years - my NOS parts will have colour-aged. I took their advice as I reckon they know what they are talking about. Comparing these colours in photos is a fool's game too.

So, "You pays your money and you takes your choice..."

The original colour had its roots in the Austin-Nissan tie up of the 1950s.

The colour is still listed on the 'British Standard' database as B.S. 18C39, with HMG ( Her Majesty's Government ) Glidden number GL31557, and Glidden number name 'Dolphin Blue'.
