Apologies for the title to be misleading.

I am very confused on this topic as for my 18th Birthday I am buying a Nissan 350z in Queensland which is legal, but as soon as I buy it I want to road trip down to Victoria with it for only a week. I know this is car is banned on P Plates but since I live in another state and won't be permanently there is there a way for this to work? Sorry if this question seems inept quite new to the whole P plater approved car scene.

If you have a QLD licence you'll be fine. Especially if the car is rego'd in QLD. You just have to comply with your states licence not other states

Same with Victorian P platers being able to do the speed limit in NSW instead of being limited to 90km/h like complete idiots

What if I am buying the car from Victoria then taking it back home to Queensland?

the seller would probably need to see your license if from a yard, if you buy it unregistered you may be able to  put a temp permit on it and drive it.worth a call to vic roads and ask.

My advice from personal experience for what it’s worth would be to check with NSW, QLD and VIC roads and traffic. Be sure you have the information on you and understand the different implications in each state. It’s a mine field and believe me most of the Police don’t understand what you can and cannot do. As examples. In NSW all L plate drivers no matter what state their permit is from must obey the L plate speed limit. So when driving with my kids on L plates they would rip along at 110 kmph in Victoria and when we crossed the border to NSW they could only drive (at the time) at 80 kmph. My daughter who went to UNI in NSW did a P off course in the ACT so she did not need to show P plates on the car and could travel at the posted speed limit (not the reduced speed). This is recognised by NSW RMS but most of the Police don’t know this and if stopped would have to politely informe the Police about it.

The restrictions on P plate drivers vary from state to state greatly.

This may help but I would check with each state. The police state of NSW will be your problem.
