GregTas Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 Has anyone had any experience putting wheels speed sensors on the front hubs of a 240? If so how did you go about it? Greg Quote
RLY240 Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 I fitted a probe for a Terratrip on my 240. Needed to clearance slightly and made a mount that bolts to the dust shield mount. Quote
GregTas Posted May 26, 2018 Author Posted May 26, 2018 (edited) Thanks Roger. That is very helpful. I thought I would probably have to use the the dust cover bolt holes for some form of mounting, but hadn't thought of something so neat and compact I'm thinking these with M12 thread might work ok. The long thread will help me get it in close to the bolt. https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/monit-wheel-probe-pr001?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=ShoppingAUS&utm_campaign=ShoppingAUS&vat=off¤cy=AUD&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvtqF5vih2wIVFouPCh2fEACgEAkYBCABEgIKvfD_BwE Edited May 26, 2018 by GregTas Quote
RLY240 Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 That’s the same probe I think. Nowadays we use a GPS Monit. This is a better view of the bracket I made. Quote
GregTas Posted May 26, 2018 Author Posted May 26, 2018 Thanks. I see now the inner nuts sits on the wheel side of the strut. That should be easy enough to make up. I need them on my wheels for traction control so have to go this way. I feel I'm ok to order them now. Quote
RLY240 Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 I should have said they sense off the rotor bolts. In the picture the bolt is set at the height it would be with the rotor and spacer fitted, that setup used the Hilux caliper and a bluebird (I think) rotor. Quote
GregTas Posted May 26, 2018 Author Posted May 26, 2018 I thought there must have been a spacer there. I measure mine and the strut face where the backing plate bolts to is about 33mm to top of the bolt. So with 55mm of thread I should be able to get it set ok. Yours look a bit shorter in length. I've ordered them and so hopefully it works out ok. Thanks for the help. Quote
Cozza Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 Interesting. I was wondering if the sensor picks up all 4 rotor bolts or is 1 bolt different to the others. Quote
GregTas Posted May 27, 2018 Author Posted May 27, 2018 I believe it will pick up every bolt. I found the installation instructions here. http://www.monitrally.com/downloads/pr001_installation_en.pdf Quote
RLY240 Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 Yes picks up on all four bolts. Might not be the best for traction control but I guess if you needed a higher resolution you could possible glue addition bold heads in between the 4 rotor bolts. Quote
GregTas Posted May 27, 2018 Author Posted May 27, 2018 (edited) If needed I could tap some more M10 threads in the rotor and screw a few more bolt heads in. I'd be sad if I glued them and one came off and trashed my flash new sensors. A square wave from a hall sensor would have been a nicer signal than from a reluctor, but I think my ecu should be able to handle it. Edited May 27, 2018 by GregTas Quote
Cozza Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 Thanks for the info. Greg your build sounds quite elaborate. Have you documented it in the build thread section here? Link? Quote
GregTas Posted May 27, 2018 Author Posted May 27, 2018 Thanks for the info. Greg your build sounds quite elaborate. Have you documented it in the build thread section here? Link? Sorry no build thread, just a few pics in my gallery. Car: Buitd for track days, but will hopefully have special interest rego so I can drive on street. RB25, Haltech ecu, coilovers, GTR skyline front brakes, r31 rear. 16x8 Rota R wheels. Fairly standard build, but as tyres will only be 225 and it will have a bit of power I will try and use some smarts in the ecu to make it more driveable. Quote
