Zeddophile Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Stupid a$$holes - nothing better to do with their time than whinge about me fixing zed up... apparently uin recent yearas, like thge last two, been regulations passed that the only work you may do to own car in residential zone is minor servicing, ie. oil change. they've complained to the council, and now i can't finish zed its a 10,000 dollar fine and $h%t. Very pissed off, had over 8 standardd drinks at this point, and going all out. Might end up selling my zed in almost completeed stage, anyone wanna buy? maybe i can t6emp permit and drive it to work for finishing.... or find a cheap panelbeater... or move to abandonedd warehouses... i hatre neighbours, stupid city.... should go back to countryus. EDIT: Changed some language since it displays on front page . Quote
Toecutter Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Thats ridiculous! Man you've got some pretty selfish neighbours! Can't you just do the work behind closed doors!? I might know someone that could help you out with some factory space if they have room so you could finish the car off. I'll give you a call tommorrow some time with details. How far off are you from being ready to paint it? Cheers Sulio Quote
Zeddophile Posted November 3, 2005 Author Posted November 3, 2005 unforthunatwly, grindingf still has to be done, so noise gives me away... Gav can tell you how close my neighbours actually are.... hopefully it'll look better in the morning when alcohol is gone.... Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 3, 2005 Administrators Posted November 3, 2005 Hi Ben, I'm sorry to hear about that, it's typical though my neighbours all hate me and my Z they think I'm some kind of hoon(wonder what gave them that idea  ). I've been accussed of stealing license plates and everything even when I confront them they tell me they don't believe I'm innocent. What judge in their right mind would give you a $10,000 fine for working on your Z when your a mechanic honestly. What time do you work on the car is it at reasonable hours? You should probably go around and talk to them unless there as unreasonable as my neighbours. Unfortunately you are very close to your neighbours I'm wondering why they didn't speak to you first. They just decided to go out and get someone else to do their dirty work. I hate cowards  Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Who was it that told you about the new laws? Is the car licenced or unlicenced? I'd check with the council and find out exactly what it is you are alowed and not allowed to do. If its in the back yard in a closed shed, maybe its allowed. And check that they are council laws, not just housing estate, type "laws". Contact you local council member. As for noise, I'd check that to. Used to be that you could make as much noise between 7:30 am to like 5 pm, or something like that. Play extremely loud heavy metal music to piss them off and cover the noise you are making, but wear earplugs. Quote
Huw Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 hey, i'd have to agree with camoflage on this.... I always thought that there was a timeframe during the day (actually thought it was till a little bi later 8 or so when you could do whatever you wanted). regardless of the new laws, I would check, and find out the details of the complaint (e.g. whether they said to the council that you were grinding away all hours etc). look it up for 2 reasons, 1) to finish the zed and 2) so you know the rules better than they do :-) good luck Quote
Zeddophile Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 Well, they have complained a number of times to the body corporate. On the first of these occasions, we checked on noise regulations with the council, and found out I hadn't done anything outside the hours anyway. Next few complaints, we got a letter from the body corporate, and simply sent one back advising them we weren't outside noise regulations. Then the other day there was a business card from the Planning Investigations Officer for the local council, so I got dad to ring him (dad has the patience to deal with red tape, i don't. He also is excellent at finding legal loopholes, being an accountant.) The upshot is that over the last 2 years, they changed the law to you could only work on a car registered in your name (an attempt to stop backyard mechanics, as they couldn't prove if money changed hands). Then they ammended it to minor servicing only (basically oil changes). Anyhow, the council officer is sending dad a copy of the regulations, and also me, and dads going to go through it with a finetooth comb to see if its bullshit, but it seems unlikely. At these stage I don't believe they are going to try to fine me, unless I continue working on it. Pretty much they ignore this sort of thing unless there is a complaint, then they are bound by regulations to investigate it. Anyhow, Sulio seems to found me a good solution, if an agreement can be reached, so it doesn't really matter too much anyway. However, my V8 Range Rover with next to straight through exhaust system has developed an unexplainable need to be warmed up at 4500 rpm when I go to work at 7:15 every morning Quote
Huw Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 Just for arguments sake...... i believe units/estates etc (anything with a body corporate) are a different kettle of fish, as apart from the usual legislation, they may (under vote from members of body) establish new regulations/rules in regards to that body. also, i don't know if this helps, but i recently used the LIV.com.au (law institute of Victoria) site for a law assignment and this is what they have to say re: noise http://www.liv.asn.au/public/legalinfo/neighbour/neighbour-Noise.html but they do refer you onto councils as well, so the regs may differ. factory sounds like a good idea though (keeps things vaguely civil & there's more room to put your tools and parts!!! hehe) you could make putting a nice loud system on your zed when it's done a priority too.......you could warm both up :-) hehe you can tell i don't want to do exam study anymore. Huw Quote
Natez Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 thats harsh, stupid neighbours... how is it really destroying there lifes with you working on the car during normal hours of the day.... hope you can find a loophole, or sulio will help you out etc... very lucky i got my car in the garage and my folks allow it etc.. buha... also my neighbours are car freaks as well, but they don't appreciate me handbraking into my driveway, and my friends leaving clouds of smoke after dropping me off at home... Zeddophile Posted November 5, 2005 Author Posted November 5, 2005 hehe - exhaust system will definitely be rather loud Quote
VertexZ Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 bdoy corp noise restrictions are different, and are detirmined by the subdivision act 1988. Generally: a member must not make or permit to be made any noise from music or machinery which may be heard outside the owners lot between midnight and 8pm a member must not make...any undue noise in or about the common property or any lot affected by the body corp. That said, body corp managers tend to be farking useless, so they probably wont do anything. And its obviously a bit grey what undue noise it... Quote
