Do you guys remove the pre-heater tube that is fastened to the block under the su carbs? Maybe this is also a source of heat and removing it may help with the fuel percolation issues!

I believe that metal tube from the exhaust is for EGR, but our early 240Z's didn't have to have that set up (maybe later 260z's did). Our early S30Z's didn't have an air pump or all that emissions stuff until the later 260z's.

I don't think that's your issue however..

Am not clear which metal tube you are referring to? The photo you posted looks 'normal' to me.

Are you referring to metal tube at left front of block with the rubber hose connected to the intake bridge in the centre of the picture? I've left mine in place, it vents vapour to the intake manifold.

Different markets got different 'pipework' and in different models as the years progressed.

FWIW the flattop carbs that were original to my early 260 (& I think were also fitted to the last of the USA-spec 240Zs) had water circulation pipework connected from the thermostat housing. I removed all that when I noticed a rubber hose had perished & was weeping - it was an impending breakdown - for no obvious change.
