Heres some pics of my dash resto.

First ground out all the cracks to a v shape

Cut alot of cuts across the cracks for fiber filler to bond to

Filled cracks and cuts with fiber filler

Sanded roughly with 30 grit.

Few skims of body filler

Sand to perfection

10 coats of 2 pack primer (thick coats)

Sand to perfection

1 thick coat of vht wrinkle paint, heat with heat gun while wet, to keep wrinkles tight.

And this what you get! Looks veeery good. Not exactly like the original, but every bit as good! Plus only cost about 100 bucks all up.

Hey mate, I did the same sort of thing but to finish it I used automotive bed liner, came out with a rubbery texture which I'm not a huge fan of, does the wrinkle paint give a hard finish?

how does the body filler go with cracking? how flexible is it?

The foam is slightly soft, but the filler would crack around the edges wouldnt it?

with the cracks having all the cuts in them , in the opposite direction of the crack, it acts like stitches. Plus 2 pack paint is very strong and flexible stuff.. i realy doubt the 10 thick coats of it that i put on, will crack within 10 years...

And even if it does crack in a few years time, 100$ so you know. Can't really go wrong! Also, plastic fillers are pretty flexible now days so I think it should hold up!

cheers guys! Good to know.
Im currently re-foaming a modded R34 dashboard and was concerned with cracks in the filler being evident, but im also going to cover it in suede, this gives me the confidence that it shouldnt show through it.
