blu260z Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 Would they still work with the spray bar dat2kman ? Quote
dat2kman Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Nissan used to sell the blanking plates to convert the cam towers from spray bar type, to the later internal oiled type. They mst have felt this was an upgrade. If you want to run an internal, and a spray bay, you'd need to make sure you have sufficient oil volume, and pressure to allow for all the extra "leaks", a Turbo 280ZX pump inly supplies around 15% greater volume, but no greater pressure, unless you fit the Nismo twin relief springs, which give a slight increase in pressure throughout the oil system, but this puts greater wear on the oil pump drive gears, as they have to work harder. The other advice, is to enlarge by 1mm the oil feed orifice that is in the top deck of the block, this helps to flood the valve train. If you cant find an non-drilled cam, run an internal, but blank off the spray bar feeds. Have seen quite a few spray bars where the ends have simply broken off due to harmonics, easily silver soldered back on! Quote
blu260z Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 Thanks dat2kman but I think I will stick with the externally oiled cam for now. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 7, 2017 Administrators Posted January 7, 2017 Yeah externally oiled ones the spray bar breaks off at the ends, had that problem in my 73 240z. Hence I went internally oiled on my E31. Sadly I think I turfed my A grind cam. I might try look for it but think it went with a bunch of stuff I threw out. Quote
