I have been looking for months, could get one out of the States for about $1k landed, but then had to hope it didn't cop ant damage along the way !! so in the end I am in the process of having one made for my restoration project, pics to go up when completed, hopefully next weekend . I don't mind doing smaller repairs, and less obvious ones like sill panels etc, and in fact if I could have gotten hold of a roof skin or complete roof I would have had a go at fitting it !! But making a panel which is the first thing that people look at is beyond me !! Its being done by a well know guy in the hotrod/custom car circles in Adelaide by the name of Tony Derose, he had time to do it straight away as a fill in job,and as we all know , most of the restoration blokes are booked up for a year or longer in the future. Tony was keen to have a go, and so far it looks pretty good !! Hopefully he finishes it this week and I can go to Adelaide next weekend and pick it up, then I will put a few more pics up of the finished job and see what everyone thinks !! Quote

I saw how much work was involved in replicating the door on an old hot rod at my tafe course which had similar changes in curvature and I thought, geez I'm glad I have a turret to replace mine with. Makes life A LOT easier. But I do have to do a couple of minor repairs to it etc.. So making a new panel from new steel is also not such a bad thing. I guess Tony didn't even consider patching the hole? Probably too much chance of distortion and more work than recreating the whole roof on some levels I'd imagine. Quote

I saw probably 30 entire roof sections in his storage area Didn't get a photo but you can see here fenders hanging up going back about 5m! Quote
Groundhog Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I have seen a sun roof repair on a 240Z that used a section out of a 280ZX roof as a donor. Not a perfect match but a good source of a curved replacement section to begin with. I was luck enough to get a donor roof for mine. Quote

Hows good is the quality of this guys work !!! Rolled up a repair patch on the english wheel, grafted it in, all done with metal !! no bog !! I just wish I had the ability to do this , there are some real craftsmen out there, just got to find them. Mark gav240z 1 Quote

As someone who aspires to be this good I can appreciate how good this is. Of course you could develop these skills, it just takes a lot of time and patience and everything goes very slowly. Quote
