Removing/replacing Door Glass

Does anyone have a "how to" guide on removing and replacing window glass?

I,m sure the rough method I used was not as intended.

I didn't break anything but there was lots of skin lost with lots of cursing involved.

I could have done the replacement with new runners and stops better to stop window rattling. What is the thinking about putting a plastic liner between the door and door liner? Some people say it makes the doors sweat and retain moisture.

Removing & replacing door glass is no fun, as you say skinned knuckles & lots of bad language. Most important is to patiently get the alignment right, as I'm sure you've done.

 

You don't want moisture soaking into the door trims plus as part of the waterproofing of the vehicle I'd always install the plastic sheet well sealed around the edges just like the car manufacturers do. The door trims are a type of fibreboard not marine ply, they won't tolerate getting wet year after year. It's easy to make new sheets from polythene.

Actually what I do is paint the inside face of the door trim when I first remove it, with a solvent based paint for added protection; Zed door trims in particular are both like gold & hen's teeth so the more protection one can give them the better.

I can't see any logic behind people thinking that the plastic sheet should be dispensed with, car manufacturers would know a lot more about keeping their products watertight than those people would, & simply wouldn't spend the money if it wasn't necessary.

The plastic also helps with controlling dust ingress.
