If its too far gone, sacrifice another random Datsun steering wheel centre, machine it down, bore out your original steering wheel, ress fit the "good" centre into yours, drill two holes to fit pins into, ( on the join) and a few decent bits f weld to lock it all in. John. I bought a Nardi hub and, like so many other components, it sat on a shelf for a few years before I got to the stage of needing to fit it. When I attempted to do so I found it an incredibly tight fit to the point of believing it the wrong spline. I purchased another one but it is a Nardi./Momo hub and, unlike the first hub, the multi-wheel mount configuration makes it impossible to fit the Nardi/Ferrari horn button without machining adapter rings. On closer examination of the original hub it appears the spline is correct except that it is a VERY VERY TIGHT fit. I can press it on using the large nut which secures the Datsun steering wheel, but it will require a puller to remove it. I've tried to clear any imperfections with a needle file but it appears as though it's just a bit on the small side overall. It is alloy and I don't want to be fitting and removing it too often. I could possibly grind off the leading taper on a Datsun shaft and drive it through the hub but it's a lot of work for a dis-heartened old fart. Quote

Peter, this idea as an absolute final alternative isnt far fetched, there are hubs I have read about in my travels on the www that do have a pressed in spline center, but rather than welding one in, you could look at salvaging a Z center spline, and having it fitted into the new hub with locking key ways, good enough for go-cart wheel hubs, cant see why it wouldnt work here also. But as I said, its a ABSOLUTE FINAL ALTERNATIVE There are broaching machinests in Sydney that I have seen on the web, but your problem is a case of tolerances, not re-sizing, the other point is that spline broaching is achieved through pneumatic force by rotational force on a dye, if your hub is tight, using the column as the die and fitting and removing the hub with care will recut the splines to marry if they are the same number. Personally, take a Zed steering wheel to a machine shop and get them to check the actual sizing and then that of the new hub, they may be able to run the correct dye through the hub.
