CBR Jeff Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 No not to much oil. Most likely caused by oil returning from the system as a slug rather than in a continual manner. Or from liquid refrigerant flooding back (less likely given other indicators). The oil sump is actually on the discharge (hot gas) side of the compressor. It is a mess though but unlike a combustion engine that stops fairly quickly when it fails the electric motor driving these things can just keep churning along becoming a blender. Quote

CBR Jeff Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) Just pulled another scroll compressor apart. This is what the compressor section is supposed to look like. This one has had oil problems. Beatings have picked up and spun in the housing. Shaft is also damaged. Edited January 28, 2016 by CBR Jeff Quote
