mr-ace-k Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Chasing a door lock mechanism as my drivers side does not lock. 1971 Datsun 240z The spring that locks/releases the connecting rod to the door knob is broken and stuck in the unlock position. I've tried the usual online places such as MSA, vintagezparts, black dragon, Moorabbin Auto Spares and eBay but come up empty handed. I've attached an image for reference. Quote
Daalp1 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I had a similar issue and put up nearly the exact same post as you. However I ended fixing the issue as the problem was the three screws which held the mechanism in place, they were incorrect lengths and was preventing the door from locking. Try mucking around with these in the meantime hunting your part. Check out this (last comment): http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/26920-door-lock-problems-driving-me-nuts-1971-240z/ Quote

I've had an auto locksmith look at it as well as the guy installing my alarm have both confirmed its broken and needs to be replaced for it to work. Quote
zeds4ever Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Mate if a 260Z door unit can be useful I might be able to help you out. Regards:Alan. Quote
PeterAllen Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Not trying to be smart but have you tried Bunnings? I fitted some return springs to my Wilwood Parking Brake and they had a good range of tension and compression springs. If you just need a tension spring - if necessary cut it to length and bend a new hook on the cut end with a pair of long nose pliers. If it's the pawl spring then you're RS. Quote

zeds4ever Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Had a closer look at door lock , turns out that it is passenger side. However if lock is the same type as the one in the pics iv'e included you should be able to interchange the springs ,etc as they are interchangeable IE l & R are the same configuration from what I can see. Regards:Alan. Quote
zeds4ever Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 G'day mate, don't know if you are still after door lock parts but I found a passenger side unit from which I think you can use parts to suit your needs. See pics. Regards:Alan. Quote
mr-ace-k Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 All fixed. The inside door handle connecting rod was pulled to tight therefore the mechanism wouldn't allow any travel of the door lock to the lock position. Quote
