Hey guys - great to have my car here but it's all wired for alarm (can't even find a brand!) and even when I disarm it via the remote it chirps and kills the spark - any ideas on how I can by pass it or kill it!!!!

Thanks

Hi Rev,

Suggest you look at removing alarm system completely as they can be a source of gremlins later...even if you solve current "issue"

My last road going zed had a secret kill switch fitted up under the dash which disabled the carter electric fuel pump.

Hi Rev

I agree that removing it is the best answer, an unreliable alarm is a PITA.

Insofar as the issue with it killing the spark you need to determine :

- is it just killing the spark or is the entire ignition circuit dead ?

If just the spark head to the coil and track the wires, there should only be a couple, Dizzy, condenser, suppressor & power supply.

If everything is dead, then you need to look at the ignition circuits under the dash.

It is really hard to diagnose via email, but hopefully this will give you a start (no pun intended)

Anybody local to Dave able to drop past ?

Cheers

Biggest issue with alarms is that they are designed not to be easily bypassed and can be quite clever how they do things. But if you have the remote and it "beeps" may be the problem is not the alarm and you do not have a spark anyway.

Sounds like you are having fun, first no fuel then no spark....the only two things you need to make it run!

I get a spark and then the alarm 'chirps' and cuts out the spark.  I've got the remote which arms it and disarms it and it seems to make the right noises until you go to start it and then it seems to override, almost as though it rearms itself?? Might have to just be patient and get a sparky to pull it out!

Have asked the guy you bought it off if he has any info? Brand/Operating instructions? May be you have to disarm it again between ignition switches.

How frustrating, so close to a start. I would be tempered to hot wire it  ;D

+1, that is what I would be doing until a longer term solution can be found.

My son came over and ripped out the alarm system, we installed another fuel pump and......running perfect!

Happy Days  :) :)
