jem.142 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Hi Guys, Just thought i would introduce myself, Ive been a bystander on the forum on and off for some time. Ive always wanted a classic sports car but typically could never afford it. I was extremely fortunate to experience driving a 1971 Hakosuka GTR Replica with an L-series engine during my visit to japan late last year (see attached pics), it was nothing like i had driven before. That experience has led me on the hunt for my first Datsun. Im currently looking for a 2 seater 240z/260z that is largerly a completed project with a 20k budget negotiable. I look forward to meeting you all and learning a bunch! Cheers Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted January 7, 2015 Moderators Posted January 7, 2015 Welcome Have not driven a Hako myself but have only heard great reports about them. Good luck in your search for Z, with that budget you should be able to find a tidy car, BUT when you see a good car don't waste time as they tend to sell very quickly. Cheers PB Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 7, 2015 Administrators Posted January 7, 2015 Never driven a C10 either, but the L-GATA is 1 of (if not) my favorite engines of all time. Welcome and good luck with your search. A 20K budget should be able to buy you a rolling restoration, i.e a car that needs work but can be driven and enjoyed but isn't perfect and may need some minor rust repairs. If you get lucky you might be able to score 1 of the bargains that pops up from time to time, but you gotta be in there like swimwear . Quote
Impatient1 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Out of curiosity was that with http://fun2drive.co.jp ? I'm heading to Japan in a few months and have been putting my case with the misses, seeing I can't get a Z - for now. Good luck with your search. Quote
jem.142 Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 Hi Guys, Thanks for the advice, its much appreciated. The Hakosuka really is a great car, the car i drove had some aftermarket enhancements and it rode and handled exceptionally well. I was lucky enough to drive a NSX the year before in Japan and it has a similar amount of feedback and tactile feel, which for a 70s car is amazing. Impatient1 - Yeah, both cars mentioned above were hired from http://fun2drive.co.jp. I was lucky to be the first international non-media customer in 2013 (NSX) and returned in 2014 to drive the Hakosuka. I really cant express how amazing Yokoyama-San (owner operator of fun2drive, who speaks english) is. I highly reccommend getting the private tour as they will take you on some exceptional routes that you would never be able to find yourself, especially if your in to Initial D. They will take on the exact routes the show is based on. Jeremy Quote
CroS13 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Welcome to the mad house! As others have said, for that price a car can be had in decent condition, and like mentioned, every now and then a bargain pops up, but you need to call as soon as you see the ad, usually cars like that only last a day, if that, before they are scooped up. I remember a car being advertised on here, someone linked it from carsales and within 45 minutes of the owner posting the ad, the car was sold sight unseen from an interstate buyer. If you fancy importing one, speak to Yo-Yo on here, as he recently imported a zed, i think total cost of his including compliance and rego was around 24k landed, Ive seen his car in person and its in great condition. Ledge also recently imported a Hako, so you can go down that route too. Rudolf. Quote
