Replacing rubbers on 2+2 rear quarter windows

Hi all,

 

Is it possible to replace the rubbers that form part of the rear quarter windows on a 2+2? If so, how do you dismantle the frames to replace the rubbers and where can the rubbers be bought from?

Not sure about the disassembly side of things, but if you can't find the rubbers locally the Z Store have em.

You need to separate the stainless steel frame into it's sections, clean everything up then reassemble the window frames using new rubbers around the glass. If screws or rivets are rusted you may need to drill out & replace.

 

IIRC, & I did mine on my 2-seat more than 20 yrs ago so my memory is a bit hazy, there's a steel corner staking angle inside the frame which was probably zinc plated originally but may well need by now fresh treatment or replacement. I say that, because I have seen a number of frames both on cars & as spares from parted-out cars, that are clearly starting to separate at that corner - the steel angle, which is mild steel & not stainless steel, is rusting & bulking up & forcing the mitred corner apart. Just a thought.

Anything related to 2+2 on there states none in stock and non availability, Im having a real real hard time trying to source a rubber/ weather strip kit for my 2+2, i literally cant find anyone who has stock anywhere in the world, and I'm not the only one, Ive Pm'd other members and they have the same issues.

 

To top it all off, there are 2 different types of rear quarter windows on a 2+2, both requiring different parts, and i guarantee if you do find one ever, luck would have it that you receive the wrong one.

I take it you want both the outer rubbers (sealing the window frame to the body) & the inner rubbers (which hold the glass to the frame).

Take a window out & measure the X-section profiles.

For the outers, for starters I'd try Clark Rubber to see what profiles they have, failing that look online to various suppliers of rubber profiles for other cars, maybe check out MGB GT or something like that which also has an opening side window. Worth a try.

For the inners you may be able to graft 2 x 2-seat inner rubbers together, by cutting & butt jointing to take up the bigger size of the 2+2 plus the different shape. The X-section or profile should be the same. You'd have to buy twice of course, not a happy prospect.

I don't suppose a better used condition pair of 2+2 windows is an option?

Thanks guys will have a look into these options. Rudolf who are the guys you have tried, the guys who I would try would be:

-Nissan

-bill Thomson auto rubbers

-Precision rubbers

-Pete Jackson auto rubbers

 

Otherwise would try to cobble something together from Clark rubber or find good condition old ones. Has anyone found a complete set for 2+2 models? I would be after a full set of rubbers, including all rubbers for the quarter windows.

 

Rudolf what style quarter windows does yours have/what year is your car? I will let you know if I come across anything too as there are a few of us poor souls doing 2+2s
