Mr260z Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Hey guys, My indicators have stopped working? I changed the headlights to H4's tonight and now my indicators have stopped working though I don't think it's a related problem. What I have checked so far: Turned hazard lights on and all globes work. Checked and changed indicator fuse Hooked indicator flasher can to power supply ( think I blew it up :-\ ) Hooked up hazard light wiring to indicator flasher can, all lights stay on but don't flash when hazards are on. Hooked up indicator wiring to hazard flasher can , nothing happens. Hooked up indicator wiring to indicator flasher ( hoping it just sorted it self out ) NOTHING!!!! Checked indicator switch , nothing stands out to me. I need help guys, could it still be flasher can? Quote
gilltech Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I'm guessing but it sure does sound like the flasher can, sure you got the right one? There are different models. In my experience it's been either the stalk switch or the can that's been the culprit. Quote
Mr260z Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 Yeah I'll get another can tomorrow and try that. So you don't reckon plugging into hazard flasher should have made them work ? Quote
Enzo Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 The flasher can has a set of points similar to the distributor. Get the electronic replacement unit. I replaced mine years ago with the electronic one because the original can started flashing the lights slower. The longer that they were on the slower they got till they would stop working. Mr260z Posted July 12, 2014 Author Posted July 12, 2014 Well I have replaced flasher can with no luck. I tested the switch with a multi meter and its all good. I then checked voltage at the switch and on wiring from switch. 11 volts on input wire and 0.01 volts on each indicator wire. Something doesn't seem right would have expected same voltage on indicator sides aswell. I've also noticed when I turn hazards on front right blinker and Parker are flashing at the same time. So guess there's a short somewhere. I've spent about 8 hours on this so far and I can't work out what's going on!! I've removed every globe and inspected all wiring I can . It's getting really frustrating!!!! Any ideas? Also headlights only work on high beam and high beams only work when pass button is pushed . This hasn't bothered me as I thought previous owner may have just wired something backwards and everything was working. Indicators stopped working after I changed headlights to semi sealed h4 but these globes are actually less wattage then sealed beams so I wouldn't have thought that caused the problem . Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted July 12, 2014 Moderators Posted July 12, 2014 How I checked my lights was get a small battery (12v sealed lead acid) and unplug each light and power it up with that battery. If all work that way, you can search for fault elsewhere. Sometimes a globe looks good, but has a corroded holder etc.. if you can wait till next weekend, I can probably give you a hand as I'm in Paky. Quote
benny Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 i know that car well.... you need to unplug the 2 large connectors running along the gearbpx tunnel and heavily clean and renew connectors.... that should bring it back. Quote
Mr260z Posted July 12, 2014 Author Posted July 12, 2014 Thanks Benny , I'll give it a go tomorrow. Has it had the problem before ? Quote
benny Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Thanks Benny , I'll give it a go tomorrow. Has it had the problem before ? no worries.... yes it has Quote
Mr260z Posted July 12, 2014 Author Posted July 12, 2014 Are these the connectors you mean Benny? Quote
Mr260z Posted July 14, 2014 Author Posted July 14, 2014 Well thanks Benny, indicators all fixed and was all due to the wire in photo that I now have the red connector on. Only took around 12 hours of searching till Benny pointed me in the right direction. Seeing as you know the car Benny, do you know if the temperature gauge ever worked? Quote
benny Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 good to hear... it had a leaking heater core so it was just flooding and corroding those connectors. Cant say on the temp sender however you should be able to track the wire back/ test it from the cabin to sensor for continuity. Or just pullover if your steamin' Quote
