wildy55 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 AS the title says, I'm trying to find out what year model calipers fit onto a standard (no vented disc). I know they're S12+8, but from what years? Will a pair from a 2012 Luxy fit? cheers Quote
Scoota G Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 It's the Hilux Surf i believe 86 -88 model. Can anyone confirm? Can't say that the 2012 ones will fit unless you want to modify bits. Quote
pauly_adams Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 from around mid 80's to mid 90's will fit, im led to believe that some surf's also have 6 piston callipers im yet to confirm this yet but will soon Quote
Agno Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 A number of Toyotas have the same S12+8 caliper from my experience. LN106, LN107, LN111 series Hilux and 75 series Landcruiser use the same calipers (well the rebuild kits I used said so anyway!) Quote
skipz Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Hybridz has it stated as years 79-85 for the S12+8 non-vented. Requires trimming of the backing dust plate. Years 86-88 are S12+8 but are the vented rotor IIRC Quote
d3c0y Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Vented ones can work, ScootaG tested that the pistons wont pop out. Or you can just put an old pad behind the new ones. Quote
Agno Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I'm running vented calipers on my non-vented rotor. Having owned both types of caliper I can definitively say that the caliper casting is exactly the same between a vented and non-vented S12+8 with the exception of the brake disc "slot" width. Quote
Scoota G Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Vented ones can work, ScootaG tested that the pistons wont pop out. Or you can just put an old pad behind the new ones. The pistons can pop out only if the rotor wore down to 7mm and you had no brake pads left. Quote
