Clean it up with a wire wheel, or even carefully scrape the carbon off it.

The important bit is whether it still seals properly on the valve seat, ie is the seating part of the valve worn or pitted ? Personally, at the very least I'd give it a valve grind before re-assembly.

You can easily check if the valve is sealing on the seat by rotating the cam until the valve is fully closed then poor a little petrol or similar down the port and see if leaks through into the combustion chamber.

Carefully scrape it off, gentle taps with small hammer and small chisel, wirewheel brush it.

Deally you should remove each valve, keep all items in a bag or small cont, numbered 1 to 12,

So reassembly goes back same way, ie lash caps, collets retainers etc.

A little tub of valve grind past, and a rubber suction cup on a bit of wood dowrl, and just re-lapp them back in

Use a Aboriginal fire starter motion with your hands, lifting, dropping rotating,

No need to worry about reseating, cutting, 5 angle valve jobs.

Lapping gets the sealing right,,,, provided valve heads are not bent, due to resting the head valveface down, on a jolly workbench!!

Use petrol or solvent to thouroghly clean residue of lapping paste.
