I have taken the head off my L28 in order to disassemble it. The issue is I can't move the adjusters for the life of me, like then have lock-tight on. The cam towers along with the cam are still in and I'm trying to remove the rocker arms that are not under load of the cam, rocker arm lash springs have been removed. Should I remove the towers and the cam at once and then remove the rocker arms?

For reference I'm going by the How to disassemble your Nissan/Datsun L series book.

Get longer spanners / more leverage / bigger muscles / bigger hammer. Dismantling other stuff won't free up the adjusters, and you're going to need them freed up eventually.

EDIT: You're undoing the locknut first ?

The locknut is the 14mm nut right? Both the 17mm and the 14mm won't move but some of the nuts are rounded and are starting to with the open enders.

The middle one in the pic below. Not the larger, thinner one at the bottom that sits on the alloy of the head, and not the one that's part of the rocker pivot just visible at the top.

If you absolutely can't get them undone, you could take the cam towers off (loosen the bolts only a small amount each in turn, like the reverse of tightening head gasket bolts, so you don't unevenly put strain on the cam from the valve springs). Once that's off, try undoing the larger nut at the bottom and the whole rocker assembly pivot should come out. Then you could put it in a vice and work on getting the locknut undone, use heat if neccessary, etc.

The 17mm nut is the lock nut, undo that one first.

Mine were very tight las time I adjusted them too. If you have already removed the head from the block i.e. no head bolts, you may be able to use a pipe spanner instead of an open ender. That might help prevent rounding the lock nut.

Good luck.

You can turn the cam over to take the pressure off each rocker at a time, just watch the valves as you do it. From memory use a 14mil open end spanner,  put it on the end of the rocker with some muscle lift the rocker up and over the ball retainer thingy to one side it should drop out.

Thanks for help, turns out I didn't know left from right. The locknuts are still on very tight though.
