280zxz Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I have removed my park brake cable and one side of it is seized, i have tried getting Wd40 down there, tried working it back an forth but cant seem to get the nylon cord to freely slide through the outer casing. Can anyone give me some advice with this or let me know where I could buy a working cable new or used. Have been looking out on ebay, there was one in US but it was for 79 to 81 models, although in the pic it did look the same. I'm in south western sydney Quote
Cozza Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 You could try Conwire in Milperra. They can replicate any cable you like and are very reasonably priced. http://www.conwire.com.au/ Quote
JDSM Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Same thing happened to me a few years back. I ordered one new from Japan and from memory it was cheaper than local offerings at the time, though the exchange rate was pretty decent at the time. I could dig up the part number if you decide to go down that route. Or just park in gear... Quote
Lynton Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 A Traditional problem with 280zx's from my experience, not fixable, new replacement required, expensive yes, but absolutely worth the money, the difference is magic Lynton Quote

280zxz Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Thanks to all for the assistance, would anyone know if there is any difference in the cable from a 79-81 model to a 82-83 280zx Quote
Grandad Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Hi 280zxz If you've bought a new cable then your problem is solved however if not yours was a common problem in the Golden Holdens of the 50s and 60s a simple fix is to remove the cable and submerge it is a 75/25 solution of Kero and oil for a few days, problem solved until next time it seizes. Moderators PB260Z Posted March 29, 2014 Moderators Posted March 29, 2014 Another old trick was to hang the cable off mum's clothesline and dribble Penatrine or similar down the core. Worked pretty well for the cable , not so good for Dad's lawn though, almost as bad when I cleaned a petrol tank in the middle of the lawn. Quote
